Redesigning prosperity for the 21st century. Time to make prosperity inclusive and sustainable for all.
About us
The Institute for Global Prosperity at UCL (IGP) is redesigning prosperity for the 21st century, changing the way we conceive and run our economies, and reworking our relationship with the planet. Our vision is to help build a prosperous, sustainable, global future, underpinned by the principles of fairness and justice, and allied to a realistic, long-term vision of humanity's place in the world. The IGP undertakes pioneering research that seeks to dramatically improve the quality of life for this and future generations. Its strength lies in the way it allies intellectual creativity to effective collaboration and policy development. Of particular importance to the IGP’s approach is the way in which it integrates non-academic expertise into its knowledge generation by engaging with decision-makers, business, the arts, civil society, and local communities. The IGP educates the problem solvers of the future. Our Master’s courses equip ambitious, entrepreneurial students with new approaches to prosperity, and we help them become transition leaders in their domains of interest.

Huge congratulations to IGP PhD candidate Natalie Garland on her recent feature in the Financial Times. In the interview, Natalie talks about launching Lamsa - a community-based fashion brand from Bekaa, Lebanon developed in partnership with Syrian-led NGO Multi-Aid Programs. Natalie founded Lamsa in 2021 during her doctoral field research in Bekaa, Lebanon where she experimented with impactful and creative methodologies for capturing the lived experience of refugeehood. Lamsa, which means 'touch' in Arabic, leverages the power of craft as a pathway towards dignity in displacement. https://lnkd.in/ehTtMSbR

Shaping the future of AI governance. In this new opinion piece for UCL Institute for Global Prosperity, William Hynes, A/Professor Jo-An Occhipinti (née Atkinson) and Ante Prodan argue that as generative AI reshapes labour markets, we need a new social contract where technological progress is governed in service of collective quality of life. From rethinking taxation to investing in social infrastructure, how can we ensure AI works for everyone? Let's reimagine prosperity in the age of AI. #AI #AIGovernance #Innovation https://lnkd.in/e2AAvE39

Fossil fuel subsidies are killing both people and the planet: by encouraging excessive consumption of fossil fuels, they exacerbate pollution and climate change. Yet for years there has been minimal progress in eliminating this financial support. Drawing on real-world case studies, 'Ending fossil fuel subsidies: The politics of saving the planet' explores why they persist despite the harm they inflict. Join us for IGP Book Club where author Dr Neil McCulloch will present key insights from his book, along with a group discussion and networking opportunities. 🕡 Tuesday 6 May, 6:30pm 📍 The Gilded Acorn 🔗 Register now: https://lnkd.in/ey7d6b7y
