Did you catch us on ITV News last week? 🎥🥾✊ It was brilliant to see Ramblers Director of England, Jack Cornish, on ITV Borders talking about our recent win in this landmark high court case alongside some of the brilliant local community campaigners who have been the driving force behind this long-standing fight. As Jack said, "It's a fantastic victory for walkers, not just in Cumbria but across the country. We've now set the precedent that it shouldn't stop the public's right to use these paths." This was a huge win for everyone who loves the outdoors. But with so many threats to paths and access across Britain, we must be ready for the next fight. Our legal fund means we can protect hard-won rights and challenge issues that put public paths and access to nature at risk. Join the fight for everyone’s right to enjoy the outdoors. Britain’s walking charity, opening the way for everyone to enjoy walking and protecting the places we love to wander.
About us
Britain’s biggest and most vibrant walking community. Since 1935, we’ve been doing everything we can to make sure everyone everywhere can enjoy nature on foot. We lead the way, and the walks, for a community of over 100,000 walkers. And we help thousands more every year find their feet out in the open to boost their wellbeing naturally. The Ramblers is a charity dedicated to removing barriers so everyone can enjoy walking in green spaces and to preserving and improving hundreds of thousands of miles of well-loved paths, tracks and trails across England, Scotland, and Wales. We're committed to campaigning to keep our countryside open to all and to fighting for the things that matter most to walkers.

👏 Join us in celebrating Ramblers volunteer and "unsung local hero" Alan Marlow! It's thanks to volunteers like Alan, who volunteer their time and expertise (in this case, for an incredible 30 years! 😮), that we're all able to get out and benefit from the joys of walking in nature 🥾🙏🏽💚 Fantastic to see this hugely deserved recognition from the Mayor for Alan's decade-long dedication to maintaining footpaths and ensuring countryside access as the volunteer footpath and access officer for Winchester Ramblers. 🙌 ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eYwwTiuk Fancy following in the footsteps of Alan? There’s a Ramblers volunteering role for everyone, whatever your background, abilities or availability. Find out more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/es6Pusms.

"Paths have always been impacted by weather. But does climate change mean those impacts are becoming more severe, frequent or long-lasting – and perhaps more costly and inconvenient?" The evidence is indisputable: our weather is becoming milder, our winters wetter and our sea levels higher. But what does this mean for walkers and for the volunteers who maintain our routes? 🥾🌍🛠️ #ClimateCrisis This #WorldMeteorologicalDay we delve into the impact our changing climate is having on Britain's paths, countryside, and coastlines with Ben Dolphin - ranger, environmentalist and ex-president of Ramblers Scotland. From the countryside to the courtroom, we’ll fight all the way for your right to enjoy the great outdoors. Yesterday, we won a landmark High Court case to save paths in historic Hayton Woods. A judgment in favour of Roxlena Ltd could have had far-reaching implications for countryside access, putting other paths not used during the foot-and-mouth crisis, or even Covid-19 lockdowns, at risk. Yesterday's verdict was a huge win. But it's not over yet. To get these paths in Hayton Woods added to the map and protected for future generations, a definitive map modification order still needs to be confirmed in a further public inquiry. We couldn’t do this work without the generosity of our supporters. Our legal fund means we can protect hard-won rights and challenge issues that put public paths and access to nature at risk. WE WON! 🥾✊🌳 The Ramblers has won a long-running legal battle against landowner Roxlena Ltd, bringing much-loved Cumbrian paths in Hayton Woods a step closer to being protected for future generations! Today, the High Court judge ruled in our favour in this landmark case that could have punished locals for staying out of the countryside during the foot-and-mouth crisis. This was a high-stakes case with the potential to set a dangerous precedent - not just for Hayton Woods but for ALL of our access rights. Today’s decision is a huge win for everyone who loves the outdoors and our right to enjoy it. 🌲🧡✊🏾 Learn more about the case and how you can join the fight for walkers' rights ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eQuVs2xZ
