Compression hosiery to avoid post-thrombotic syndrome: CHAPS #RCT ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dNfkchTC The CHAPS trial is a UK-based randomized controlled study assessing if graduated compression stockings (GCS) prevent post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) after proximal DVT Though stopped early due to poor recruitment, results showed a lower incidence of PTS in the GCS group (30%) versus control (51%) No serious GCS-related adverse events were reported, and adherence was good. Findings support further investigation into GCS use for PTS prevention. Sarcopenia, myosteatosis, and frailty parameters to predict adverse outcomes in patients undergoing emergency laparotomy: prospective observational multicentre cohort study ➡️https://lnkd.in/dSjms7g2 This study determined that sarcopenia (incorporating muscle strength parameters), myosteatosis, and frailty are major determinants of functional compromise, feasible to measure before surgery, and predict adverse patient-centred and functional outcomes for older patients after emergency laparotomy.
