Implementation and short-term outcomes of minimally invasive liver surgery in France ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dKRH6eGb In this nationwide French cohort study, the short-term safety of LLR versus OLR was compared at a national level over the past decade By 2022 the percentage of LLR had increased to 30% of all liver resections. LLR was associated with a lower risk of short-term overall and liver-specific complications, severe complications, and mortality Short-term advantages of LLR were observed across diverse healthcare settings This may have important implications for the organization of healthcare services, resource allocation, and the provision of complex surgical liver procedures, provided that teaching and stepwise difficulty progression in laparoscopic training is respected Work by Stylianos Tzedakis, Diana Berzan, Ugo Marchese, Alexandre Challine, Vincent Mallet, Anthony Dohan, Heithem Jeddou, Alexandra Nassar, Sandrine Katsahian, David Fuks #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #SurgEd #Surgery @RCPSGTrainees @aecirujanos @SEIQuirurgica @iss_sic #MedicalTechniques @BJSAcademy @young_bjs @BJSOpen @des_winter @evanscolorectal @robhinchliffe1 @bplwijn @MalinASund @nfmkok @TejedorPat @paulo_sutt @PVaughanShaw @JJEarnshaw @juliomayol @ksoreide #some4hpb #some4tpl @DPCG_official @pancreatitis_nl @PancreasClub #PancreasClub2023 #PancreaticCancer #Pancreatitis #HCC @PanCAN #PanCANawareness @EurPancClub @P_C_E_ @dice_europe #PancreaticCancer #cholangiocarcinoma

Optimizing ward rounds: systematic review and meta-analysis of interventions to enhance patient safety ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dxuA_TnX This is the first systematic review with meta-analyses synthesizing the evidence of all ward round interventions targeted at improving patient and process outcomes Checklist interventions were demonstrated to reduce length of stay in the ICU and improve overall and specific documentation of discussion on the round, whilst not increasing ward round duration per patient Results from this review should be used to inform guidelines or standards for the ‘ideal ward round’. Compression hosiery to avoid post-thrombotic syndrome: CHAPS #RCT ➡️ https://lnkd.in/dNfkchTC The CHAPS trial is a UK-based randomized controlled study assessing if graduated compression stockings (GCS) prevent post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) after proximal DVT Though stopped early due to poor recruitment, results showed a lower incidence of PTS in the GCS group (30%) versus control (51%) No serious GCS-related adverse events were reported, and adherence was good. Findings support further investigation into GCS use for PTS prevention. Sarcopenia, myosteatosis, and frailty parameters to predict adverse outcomes in patients undergoing emergency laparotomy: prospective observational multicentre cohort study ➡️https://lnkd.in/dSjms7g2 This study determined that sarcopenia (incorporating muscle strength parameters), myosteatosis, and frailty are major determinants of functional compromise, feasible to measure before surgery, and predict adverse patient-centred and functional outcomes for older patients after emergency laparotomy. Muscle strength is more important than mass, and measurable without imaging, streamlining its clinical application. 👏👏👏Brittany park, Alain Vandal, Fraser Welsh, Tim Eglinton, Jonathan Koea, Ashish Taneja, Ahmed Barazanchi, Andrew G Hill, Andrew D MacCormick #SoMe4Surgery #MedTwitter #SurgEd #Surgery BJS Academy BJS #sarcopenia #frailty
