The #obesity epidemic in EU - the latest stats and the role of formula diet products in tackling the condition.⬇️ 📈According to an infographic published recently by the European Parliament's Think Tank, nearly 51% of the EU's population aged 16 and over have #overweight and 17% have obesity. 🌍Between 1975 and 2016, obesity in the World Health Organization European region, gathering 53 countries, rose by 138%, while no EU country is on track to reach the target of halting the rise in obesity this year. 😷What's more, obesity is among the leading causes of death and disability and is considered to be the cause of at least 13 different types of #cancer. 📝In our latest blog post, TDMR Europe calls on governments and public health systems across Europe to tackle obesity by considering all options available, including scientifically sound #weightloss programmes that use formula diet products, such as the United Kingdom’s ‘Pathway to #diabetes remission’ programmes that are delivered nation-wide in England and Scotland. 🔗 Click on the link in the comment to read more.

⁉️Why governments across Europe need to put forward public health initiatives like the #NHS low-calorie diet programme that uses total diet replacement to tackle #obesity. 📈Obesity’s economic impact is projected to surpass $4 trillion by 2035 as the condition hits record high - According to WHO Regional Office for Europe, the global economic costs associated with obesity are projected to reach an alarming $3 trillion per year by 2030, while data from the World Obesity Federation show that, in 2035, obesity’s economic impact will reach $4.32 trillion. In the EU, the total cost of adult obesity, including healthcare costs and lost productivity, has been estimated at €70 billion per year. - In 2022, in the WHO European Region, 22.6% of adults were living with obesity. This figure is well above the global average of 15.8% and the prevalence of the condition in the region has been increasing steadily over the past 50 years, with a marked increase of over 20% between the years 2006 and 2022. - The UK's NICE - National Institute for Health and Care Excellence has recommended the use of low and very-low energy diets (LEDs and VLEDs) to tackle obesity and #overweight as well as to help people with these conditions and #type2diabetes (#T2DM) achieve remission. 🔗Click on the link in the comment to find out more.
