Last October we announced our Subscribe to Open (S2O) pilot, inviting the subscribers of three journals to support their conversion to open access. We’re thrilled to report that all three journals have reached the required threshold, which means all articles in the 2025 volumes will be published OA at no cost to authors! Readers everywhere will have access to the full range of article types, including specialist and professional content that isn’t typically covered by other OA models. We’re grateful to all the institutions that have demonstrated their support for these journals and this collective funding approach. Learn more here: http://spr.ly/6048FgJhu #OpenAccess

The ocean is central to efforts to tackle climate change, protect biodiversity, and regulate pollution – and the law has a vital role to play in addressing these challenges. We’re therefore very pleased to publish “The Law of the Sea and the Planetary Crisis,” edited by Nengye Liu and Shirley Scott. Hear directly from the authors on these important topics in their book launch webinar, this Monday, April 7, at 5 pm SGT, hosted by the Singapore Sustainable Futures Initiative and the SMU Centre for Commercial Law in Asia (CCLA). This week we’re shining a spotlight on a new journal called “Statistics and Data Science in Imaging.” Imaging data is extensively used in diverse areas such as neuroimaging, medical imaging, satellite imaging, computational imaging, forensic imaging, astronomy, remote sensing, and materials science. As new imaging types emerge in the future, it will be essential to develop specialized statistical, machine learning, and deep-learning methods to effectively analyze imaging data. We are excited to announce that the pioneering publishing platform Open Research Africa has been extended to all authors in Africa! Researchers submitting to ORA are no longer required to have a grant from a partnering research funder. All articles with an author based in Africa can now be submitted, regardless of their funder. Previously, only work supported by an ORA partnering research funder could be published on the platform. ORA was launched in 2022 by F1000 and the Science for Africa Foundation to enable the rapid sharing, discovery, use and reuse of African research for the benefit of all, both in the region and globally. ORA uses F1000’s trailblazing publishing model, with a streamlined submission process that supports rapid publication of research outputs, accelerating the dissemination of knowledge and the pace of new discoveries. Open, post-publication peer review promotes understanding of the review and revision process, eliminating unnecessary editorial delays, and reducing peer review bias. Once published, all content on Open Research Africa is made available to everyone, everywhere, free-of-charge. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eCMw54i3 #OpenResearch

In their paper “Advancing Translational Research,” published in the "Journal of Translational Research,” Lan Murdock and Rose Stephenson explain that, while translational research originated in applied medicine, other disciplines can adopt and benefit from its approaches and mindset. They give an example of one such case study, and encourage more interaction and coordination across academia, publishers, industry, and the public. In the article, they highlight a case study with research conducted at the University of Bath in collaboration with the car manufacturer Ford. The team improved the engine design, resulting in around 1.4 million new Ford vehicles a year emitting less carbon dioxide and pollutants — equivalent to taking 109,000 average cars off the road.
