If you've been keeping up with the chaos at Heathrow, you might have spotted our very own Tara Spielhagen in Travel Bulletin. Extraordinary circumstances are the world we live in. Unforeseen events like Friday's Heathrow fire shutdown will be frustrating for passengers and airlines alike. But although we can't avoid travel disruptions, modern technology and innovation means customers no longer have to suffer the same stress and hassle that they did in the past. Swiipr's digital compensation platform gives airlines the power to support their passengers in purchasing food or necessities and booking alternative flight, accommodation, and transport so they can navigate the effects of disruption with less stress. With real-time payments, travellers need won't need to worry about how they're going to fund their delays or get home. Although events like Heathrow's shutdown can be hectic, they also provide a huge opportunity for airlines to boost brand loyalty and prove themselves to passengers. While none of us can control extraordinary events, how they are handled absolutely matters. It can quite literally mean someone refuses to fly with you again. Or it can mean the passenger is instead thankful that, even if you're not at fault, you did whatever you could to improve that already difficult situation. If things go right, they will reward your care with loyalty in choice and spend. People can handle disruption, what they can't handle is being badly treated to boot. Events like the fire at Heathrow present a huge opportunity to communicate with passengers and turn them into advocates of your brand! Did you spot our own Tara Spielhagen in Travel Weekly last week? Delays, cancellations, and unexpected diversions. Passengers aren’t alone in dreading these problems – airlines also worry about disruptions and how they might affect customer satisfaction. But is there a way that airlines can turn a negative travel experience on its head and win brand loyalty along the way? In the article, Tara shares her insights into the brand building potential of a strong compensation scheme – arguing that airlines which put customer care at the forefront of their operations set themselves up to navigate the turbulent landscape of travel disruptions and come out the other side stronger and more popular. It was a real pleasure to attend the World Aviation Festival, Asia last week, where our CEO Tara Spielhagen spoke on the importance of compensation payments in boosting airline brand loyalty. It’s been a turbulent couple of years for airlines…between IT outages, industrial action, and some abnormal weather trends. With all these challenges impacting passenger satisfaction, Tara argued how a strong compensation system can help airlines to both excel in customer service and regain consumer trust. We had a great time connecting with airlines and other industry stakeholders at WAF, including many discussions around the future of air travel. One thing is clear: passengers are expecting more of airlines than ever before. That’s why customer experience needs to be as much a priority for airlines as other aspects of their operations. Looking forward to what the rest of 2025 holds! #Airlines #Compensation #WorldAviationFestival

Swiipr's thoughts are with residents and travellers who are coping with a once-in-a-generation storm causing chaos across Ireland and the UK. With two red warnings and an advised travel ban in place, over 20% of all UK flights have already been cancelled, leaving hundreds of thousands of passengers affected. This is an extraordinary event - and one that puts airlines and airports into overdrive dealing with the consequences of huge numbers of passengers that will need to be cared for as they are diverted and/or stuck in airports. When the global IT outage shut down masses of flights last July, Swiipr saw a 229% increase in care and meal vouchers payments by our airline partners over the first three days after the incident. The next three days are sure to be just as chaotic and emotional, and we expect to see a surge in the need for our services. Our thoughts go out to staff who will be working in overdrive and the affected passengers. While we cannot help the operation of your flights or make up for the unquantifiable impacts some individuals will suffer, Swiipr is playing its part by ensuring the affected passengers are at least given the financial means to pay for their welfare, food and refreshments while they are stuck. Wishing everyone safety and strength during this stormy time. #Eowyn #Airlines #Customerexperience #Flights

A great start to 2025 with new airlines onboarding and the news that we’ve been named in this year’s #Startups100 list (companies founded in the last 5 years). It’s a massive honour to be recognised in this prestigious group of disruptive companies, which has previously included brands like Revolut, Monzo, HelloFresh, and Deliveroo. This honour follows a super year for Swiipr, where we built on our successes and fuelled growth which delivered our Swiipr compensation solution to passengers across 130 airlines. We were backed by key global partners and excellent investors, including securing a £6M growth funding round. We’re looking forward to driving our innovation in the airline compensation space further and reaching new heights in 2025, particularly as digital transformation and payments are becoming key agenda topics in the move away from legacy processes in airlines that are hugely inefficient and costly while delivering inferior customer experiences. Change is on foot.. and a win-win for all stakeholders! #Airlines #Compensation #digitalpayments #customerexperience

We were delighted to see our own Ian Clowes participating in Payments Experts recent series of roundtable discussions. Ian has been at the forefront of many great innovations in the UK payments landscape for over 25 years and has pioneered a number of "firsts" in cash centre innovation, ATM and ATM mobile top-ups, FX, pre-paid cards, cloud banking and travel payments. He has been an early influencer and strong ambassador for the London fintech scene and helped to build its global reputation. Across three articles, Ian answers questions on the latest trends in the payments industry, including AI innovation and the evolving relationship between fintechs and banks. Looking forward to 2025, he also offers insight into what the year ahead has in store (watch out for app provisioning and an even bigger take-up of virtual cards!).
