Changing Sport, Strengthening Communities, Transforming Lives

About us

StreetGames exists to bridge the sporting inequality gap for young people from low-income, underserved communities. Since we launched in 2007, we have been working with community organisations across the UK to transform young lives through sport. Our network now totals over 1,600 organisations – from sports clubs and community groups to housing associations, leisure trusts and local authorities – and we are proud to support each and every one of these in their tireless and transformational work. We are the people beside the people who change lives and communities. Doorstep Sport is our evidence-based delivery approach, underpinned by the 5 rights: sport delivered at the right time, the right place, in the right style, by the right people and at the right price. Appropriately delivered Doorstep Sport transforms young lives by providing positive pathways and alleviating some of the impacts of living in a low income, underserved community. It offers a route to healthier, safer, more successful young people and neighbourhoods. We are committed to growing the reach and impact of Doorstep Sport in more places, with more young people. StreetGames achieves its vision when: - All young people from low-income, underserved communities can engage in life-enhancing Doorstep Sport. - There is a year-round, multisport offer available in every low-income, underserved community. - All young people from low-income, underserved communities can access a pathway to become volunteers and future community leaders. - All mainstream sports providers change their practice to meet the needs of young people from low-income, underserved communities. StreetGames is registered as a charity with the Charity Commission (registered charity number 1113542) and as a company limited by guarantee with the Registrar of Companies (registered company number 5384487).

Updates

  • “The provision has to be on the doorstep of young people, and it has to remove the barriers that exist to them getting involved … If we design it around the needs and motivations of young people, which is what the locally trusted organisations we work with do, then we can tackle those stubborn inequalities.” Last Tuesday, our CEO Mark Lawrie OBE gave evidence at the Culture, Media and Sport Select Committee as part of their ‘Game On’ inquiry into school and community sport. This was a great opportunity to share the vital role of community organisations and Doorstep Sport for children and young people growing up in underserved communities. We look forward to the publication of the report and its recommendations later in 2025. You can watch the full Committee session here: https://lnkd.in/eySKhFBe

  • We are proud to have collaborated with Belong-The Cohesion and Integration Network to develop the Power of Sport Toolkit: an interactive resource designed to empower community leaders, coaches, and organisations to use sport as a tool for promoting social cohesion and integration. Recently updated, the toolkit is now even more interactive and accessible, and takes only 60 minutes to complete. "Time is extremely precious for the locally trusted community organisations we support to bring sport and physical activity into their communities. An accessible, easy to navigate and practical resource like this is ideal to help them increase their local impact on social cohesion." - StreetGames CEO Mark Lawrie OBE Access the Power of Sport Toolkit: https://lnkd.in/eutRCN22

🥎 ⛸️ 🥋 We are delighted to announce the relaunch of our digital sports toolkit – the Power of Sport. Originally launched in 2021, the Power of Sport toolkit is a FREE, Sport England funded digital learning resource designed in collaboration with StreetGames UK. The toolkit has been developed as part of our Power of Sport project to help those designing, delivering and evaluating sports programmes to create inclusive, impactful programmes that bring people together, bridge divides, and foster a sense of belonging. The new, improved, Power of Sport toolkit has been updated to be more interactive and easier to use – with a completion time of only 60 minutes!🥎 ⛸️ 🥋

  • We are excited to be partnering with UK Sport as one of four Event Social Impact Partners: organisations who share their vision to use the platform of major events to power positive change. Speaking about the announcement, StreetGames CEO Mark Lawrie OBE said: “What’s really exciting about being a UK Sport Social Impact Partner and working with the major events is the breadth of opportunity we’ll be able to bring to people in multiple parts of the UK. “We want to connect young people who live in some of our poorest communities into these events so that they can spectate and experience that major event atmosphere. They may get opportunities to volunteer around the events which will develop their skills and teamwork experience and also get the opportunity to participate in some of the sports that they watch.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/esm_FNRa

  • This is a great read from Postcode Lottery Group, highlighting the incredible positive impact of sport and physical activity for both individuals and communities – and their powerful commitment to drive meaningful change. At StreetGames, we strongly believe that access to sport and its benefits is a right and not a privilege. For young people growing up in low-income, underserved communities, however, opportunities to play sport and be active are all too often either limited or non-existent. Working in partnership with our network of 1,600 community organisations across the UK, we are bridging this inequality gap and ensuring that sport is available, accessible and enjoyable for the young people in the communities we serve. We are committed to standing up for children from low-income families, advocating for them at a national level, and creating opportunities that help them lead healthier, safer, and more successful lives. This booklet shines a spotlight on the power of investment in this area to transform lives and life chances 👏

  • With over four million children now growing up in low-income families, holiday activities delivered in underserved communities are essential for bridging the widening inequalities gap. Since its launch in 2016, our Fit and Fed programme has benefited 66,198 children and young people, providing over 528,582 free meals. Without this programme, thousands of young people would be left without access to nutritious meals, physical activity, and trusted adult support during the school holidays. We are grateful to Comic Relief for their support of Fit and Fed, which helps to ensure that this vital lifeline is available for the young people and families that need it the most. We recently joined Comic Relief and Olympian Greg Rutherford on a visit to one of the organisations in our Yorkshire & North East network, Champions Community Sport & Health CIC, to share more about the impact of the programme in local communities. See what we got up to, and hear from brilliant young volunteers Andres and Ibby, on BBC Morning Live (the segment begins around 37 minutes in): https://lnkd.in/eRCYgtms

  • “When you create an environment like this, an opportunity to hear about all the amazing work and how much it means to everyone – for me, it was just inspiring. We’re all trying to make a difference, unlock that potential. That’s what keeps me going.” What a brilliant day at our Sport for Development Awards celebration event! Our Awards are an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the outstanding individuals and organisations using sport and physical activity to transform the lives of children and young people living in underserved communities. Hosted at the headquarters of our partners Team GB, today’s event saw our national winners from across the UK come together to share more about their powerful stories and incredible impact. We also had the pleasure of hearing from Team GB athletes Abigail Irozuru, Peter Speight and Rachel Smith about their own journeys and the role of community coaches and organisations in supporting their success. A huge thank you to our winners, Team GB, and guests from across the Sport for Development sector for your engagement and support.
