    The problem with some network marketers? They smell. Not literally. But people can smell it when you want them to say yes a bit too much. You’re nervous. You’re excited. You’re hoping this will be the person that finally says “go on then, show me how it works”. But when you need it too much, people can tell. That scent of desperation? It stinks. You could be chatting to exactly the right person. They might be a brilliant fit for what we do. But if your energy says “Please join because I need you to sign up” they’re gone. I’ve been there several times. Usually when I’ve left it to the last minute to qualify for an incentive. People are sharper than we give them credit for. They don’t just hear what you say. They notice how you say it. They can feel when the conversation is relaxed and honest, versus when it’s quietly loaded with pressure. What does “commission breath” smell like? • Talking too fast • Rushing the presentation • Ignoring the real questions • Needing a decision there and then • Checking in too often with nothing new to say Here’s the thing. The more you need it, the less likely you are to get it. People buy into calm confidence. They trust someone who listens properly. They’re drawn to someone who clearly doesn’t need them to say yes but would love to help if they do. That’s the sweet spot. So if you’ve been chasing conversations and they’re going nowhere, maybe take a breath. Slow it down. Detach from the outcome. And remember, people are far more likely to say yes when they don’t feel like they’re being sold to. And way more likely when you stop smelling like you need the sale.

    Some people look at UW and assume it’s just about saving on bills or making a bit of extra money. And while that’s part of it, the truth is it can be so much more. Jon joined to free up time to care for his elderly mum. What he didn’t expect was the ripple effect that decision would have. More time freedom. A big confidence boost. Growth he didn’t even realise he needed. Better friendships and stronger relationships with the people closest to him. And the way he tells it, those have been the biggest wins of all.     Some people think you need to have a background in sales or be super confident to make UW work. You don’t. Sally didn’t come from a business background. But she knew she loved helping people and wanted something more than the job she’d been doing for years. When she found UW something clicked. Not only has she grown personally and built new friendships, she’s been able to cut back from full-time hours to just 15–20 hours a week working from home. The most powerful part? That flexibility has given her the freedom to spend time with her grandson whenever she chooses. And if you ask her that’s the bit she’s most grateful for.     Don’t wait until you’re thirsty before you start digging your well. Redundancy is on a lot of people’s minds right now. With the state of the economy and ongoing cuts across different sectors, I’ve had more conversations than usual with people feeling uncertain about their job security. It’s one of those things you hope never happens to you. But it’s happening to more and more people. Jeremy’s story is a reminder of why it makes sense to have something else in place. Since the pandemic he’s been made redundant three times. On top of that, he had a serious cycling accident. In both situations his UW income gave him breathing space. It meant he didn’t have to rely solely on Statutory Sick Pay. It gave him options while he navigated career changes. And now, even with a full-time job, he’s got that extra reassurance that he’s not depending on one income stream. Having something extra on the side doesn’t mean you’re planning for the worst. It means you’re prepared. And in a world that’s become less predictable, having something you’re building in the background can make a massive difference when life throws a curveball. This isn’t about panic or pressure. It’s about making sure you’ve got another door already open if one closes.     What would your ideal Monday look like? What if Monday was something you looked forward to instead of something you endured? Would you start the day slowly with a coffee and a walk? Would you take the kids to school without rushing, then head to the gym or get some work done at your own pace? Would you spend the afternoon on something you actually enjoy rather than sitting in meetings that could have been emails? For me, Mondays used to mean commuting to the office to be sat in meetings or sending emails. Now, they look completely different. The best part? It’s not luck. It’s not reserved for a select few. It’s about having a way to earn that fits around your life rather than the other way round. If your Mondays don’t look the way you want them to, what would need to change?

    One of the biggest mindset shifts I’ve made in my network marketing business is realising you can’t control what people do. You can invite, you can show, you can support… but you can’t make anyone say yes, take action or do the work. That’s where The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins comes in. Someone says they’ll come to a presentation but cancels last minute? Let them. A prospect ghosts you when you were sure they would join? Let them. A new recruit joins full of excitement but then disappears? Let them. Someone in your support team doesn’t lead in the way you’d like? Let them. I used to waste so much energy getting frustrated with the choices other people make. The best thing you can do is let them make their own decisions. And here’s the flip side. If we let others be who they are, we have to say “Let me”. That means letting ourselves decide the best way to act in that situation. Let yourself be consistent. Let yourself do the work. Let yourself follow up with prospects and dormant team mates from time to time. Let yourself treat people the way you feel they should be treated. Let yourself be successful.     How can I get prospects to tell me why they want to join my business AND give me their phone number? Most people stress about saying the perfect thing to get a prospect to join their business. They overthink every word and try to remember exactly what they heard in training. But that’s not how it works. It’s not about having the perfect script. It’s about getting the prospect to tell you why they’re interested in the first place. In my latest video I’m sharing a simple structure you can use to make that happen. If you ask the right questions people will tell you exactly what’s missing in their life. Most people make the mistake of pitching too soon. Instead, you need to focus on asking, listening and letting them tell you what they need. In the video I break down a simple conversation structure that makes this easy. It helps you: ✅ Get people talking so they reveal their real motivation ✅ Position your business as the solution without “pitching” ✅ Get their number in a natural way so you control the follow-up   Here’s a real life example. I spoke to a waitress who also worked for BA. She wasn’t paid enough and she wasn’t getting the travel perks she expected, so she picked up shifts as a waitress. By asking the right questions I didn’t have to convince her of anything. She literally told me the reason why she needed extra income. At the end of the conversation, I simply said, “You know you just told me X? I can help you with that.” Her ears pricked up straight away. But here’s the key. I didn’t explain everything on the spot.
