About us

SSEN Transmission plays a critical role in the transition to a low carbon future, developing, building, maintaining and operating a network for net zero. Vital to net zero ambitions it transports huge quantities of clean, green renewable power over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain. With the region home to some of the UK’s greatest resources of renewable power the business has a critical role to play in the transition to a low carbon future, connecting up more renewable energy and transporting it across the country. From the deep waters of the North Sea to high mountains of the Highlands, the power from onshore and offshore wind-farms, hydro power stations and other generation assets is moved across a vast network of underground and sub-sea cables, overhead-lines, wooden poles and steel towers to millions across the UK. This system supports both the UK and Scottish Governments' net zero emissions targets whilst meeting the needs and expectations of stakeholders. As the way we live our lives changes billions of pounds in investment will be required to meet energy demands now and in the future. Through a fair, balanced and considered investment programme SSEN Transmission is committed to improving network reliability and enabling the transition to net zero, at an affordable cost to consumers, whilst also providing a fair return to investors. https://linktr.ee/ssentransmission

  • ⚡️ We've jumped on the trend....Meet Alex – Our Transmission Operator Hero ⚡️ ⚙️ High in the control room, out onsite, participating the daily office meetings, Alex keeps a watchful eye. Calm under pressure and always ahead of the curve, they’re the unseen force helping keep the power flowing across the north of Scotland and beyond. 💡 Alex represents everyone behind the scenes at SSEN Transmission – the ones who quietly make sure homes are warm, lights stay on, and renewable energy travels safely from source to socket.   👷♀️ Alex isn’t just a doll – they’re a symbol of precision, responsibility, and the human side of high-voltage electricity. We’re building a network for net zero — and behind every switch, screen and substation is a dedicated team making that vision a reality.   ➡️ How are we building our Pathway to 2030? • ⚡️ We've submitted a planning application for our proposed Cambushinnie substation project, near Braco in Perthshire.    💡 The project is a key element of the proposed Beauly to Denny overhead line upgrade from 275kV to 400kV operation, part of our £20bn investment to upgrade the electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland in support of national clean energy and energy security ambitions.    🌿 Our proposals follow extensive consultation with the local community and include measures for peatland restoration and biodiversity net gain - meanwhile, plans are being developed for an access road to the site that will minimise traffic impacts through Braco village during the substation's construction.   🤝 We'd like to thank all those who have provided feedback during our consultation events, and we now look forward to working with Perth and Kinross Council as part of the planning submission process ➡️ Find out more: https://lnkd.in/eZTUhNkA

Global Infrastructure has successfully delivered a cutting-edge, multi-million-pound operations warehouse for SSEN Transmission – a vital new hub designed to bolster the resilience and efficiency of the high-voltage electricity transmission network in the north of Scotland. Located at Inverness Airport Business Park, the 7,500 sqm warehouse features heavy lifting and storage facilities, enabling SSEN Transmission to keep the network operating effectively, with enhanced security and monitoring in place around the new site. The facility is strategically positioned to optimise logistics and support the company’s expanding transmission network across the region. It is the first of two such warehouses for SSEN Transmission, with the second, located in Dundee’s Claverhouse East Industrial Estate, set to be completed later this year. david macdonald, Managing Director at Global Infrastructure (Scotland) Ltd, said: “This has been a significant project for Global Infrastructure, and one we’re extremely proud to have delivered. We were fortunate to be appointed at a very early stage in the procurement process, which allowed us to work closely with SSEN Transmission from the outset and help shape the successful delivery of this facility. Throughout the project, we engaged over 20 subcontractors, and all in, around 350 individuals played their part in bringing this facility to life. At peak, we had a workforce of around 90 people per shift on site." He added: "This flagship facility not only supports the north’s electricity network and Scotland’s transition to net zero, but also showcases the capabilities of our Highland-based team and supply chain. We’re delighted to have delivered it to the highest standards of safety and quality, and it stands as a testament to the strong collaboration across all parties involved. We now look forward to continuing our partnership with SSEN Transmission on future critical infrastructure projects, including the delivery of an identify facility in Dundee.” Read the full story, including quotes from John Baillie, Lead Project Manager at SSEN Transmission, and MP Graham Leadbitter, here: https://lnkd.in/eia4B8tw Pictured: Teams from SSEN Transmission and Global Infrastructure

  • 📣 Join us for a ‘show and tell’ session on our Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) Alpha project - REVISE.   As we connect more renewable generation to the grid, it’s critical we re-evaluate how we assign overhead line ratings - and whether the current methodology is still fit for purpose. ⚡   REVISE is revisiting the current standard (TGN26), which applies uniform environmental assumptions across the UK - ignoring local climate variations that could better inform line capacity.   Using cutting-edge meteorological data and system modelling, the project explores a smarter, regionally informed approach that could help reduce curtailment costs, improve network investment decisions, and support a secure, renewables-led energy future. 💡   We’ll be sharing insights on: ✅ What we’ve uncovered about the existing TGN26 methodology ✅ How regional weather data could improve line rating accuracy ✅ The potential for reducing curtailment and unlocking network capacity   📅 Wednesday 9rd April, 2pm 📍 Register here: https://lnkd.in/eUZTCX6M
