Undercounted in official statistics, so their needs aren't considered in policy-making. Locked out of statutory homelessness support, with women being stalked, harassed or forced into sex work, not considered vulnerable enough for priority housing. In this must-read piece for #InsideHousing, Lucy Campbell our Head of Multiple Disadvantage, lays out the urgent need for gender-specific services. Women experiencing #homelessness face distinct challenges - domestic abuse, trauma, and violence - yet the Government’s strategy barely acknowledges them. We won’t stand for it. It’s time to stop overlooking and start prioritising. This #InternationalWomensDay, we're calling for real investment in women’s homelessness services. 🔗 Read more via Homeless Link : https://lnkd.in/ehpCMR9N #WomensHomelessness #HiddenHomelessness #SafeSpaces #SupportWomen #EndRoughSleeping #IWD #IWD25
Single Homeless Project
Civic and Social Organizations
London-wide charity founded 50 years ago. We prevent #homelessness and help Londoners transform their lives.
About us
Single Homeless Project began in 1975 when six homeless men in London teamed up to create change. They wanted to see an end to rough sleeping and a city where everyone has a safe place to live and the chance for a fulfilling life. While we have grown beyond recognition since those early days, these origins continue to shape the way we work and our vision of a society where everyone has a place to call home and the chance to live a fulfilling life. Today, we help 12,000 Londoners in crisis every year leave homelessness behind, be seen and heard, and find a place to call home.

🚨 336,000+ households are on London’s social housing waiting list - the highest in over a decade, according to research by National Housing Federation.🚨 In some boroughs, families could wait over 100 years for a suitable home. Even the average wait in London is 27 years. This isn’t just a policy failure - it’s a generational emergency. Families are being priced out, pushed away from support networks, and left behind. We're joining #Shelter, #Crisis and #NHF to call on the Government to deliver bold action on #SocialHousing in June’s spending review. #HousingCrisis #LondonHousing #LondonCharity #HomelessnessAwareness

Women experiencing homelessness are at constant risk of violence, abuse and exploitation. To stay safe, these women often stay hidden. Hidden from the dangers of being visible on the streets, but also making them harder to reach and support off the streets - often prolonging their time #roughsleeping. Every woman deserves to be safe from harm. Our specialist women's services give women a place to regroup, rest, and rebuild their lives in a safe space, recognising the trauma they have experienced and supporting them to build on their resilience and strengths. #HomelessnessAwareness #DomesticAbuse #WomensHomelessness #DVA

Did you know Friday was #WorldPetDay?🐾 And just like many of us, people experiencing #homelessness have dogs and other pets for the same reason we do - unconditional love, protection, and companionship. Sadly, many hostels aren’t equipped to welcome both people and their pets. No one should have to choose between a roof over their head or leaving their four-legged friend behind. 💔 That’s why we have hostels accredited by StreetVet - a safe space where Londoners and pets can stay together and work toward a brighter future. ☀️ Find out more about the bond between homeless people and their dogs on our website. #PetsAndPeople #StreetVet #DogLovers #LondonCharity #HomelessnessAwareness #Dog #DogLover #Doglife #DogPhoto

Homelessness isn’t just about having no roof over your head - it’s a health crisis. Whether you’re living on the streets, sofa surfing, fighting eviction or living in substandard temporary accommodation, you face relentless challenges, severely impacting your wellbeing and health. You’re in survival mode every single day - and that takes a huge toll on your body. It’s no wonder that the average age of death for someone experiencing #homelessness is just 45 for men and 43 for women - compared to 79 and 83 for the general population. And yet, accessing healthcare can feel impossible. Even a simple GP appointment can be out of reach. That means illnesses go undiagnosed and untreated - until it’s too late. That’s why we put physical health at the heart of our work. Because everyone deserves a chance to live - not just survive. #Homelessness #RoughSleeping #HealthCrisis #HealthDay #WorldHealthDay
