Manufacturing batteries is highly complex with many steps to the manufacturing process each bringing their own challenges and currently they are not measured adequately to minimise the production of defective batteries. This has resulted in huge recalls, damage to brand reputation, and threats to customer safety. Where do we make impact? The coating, drying, and calendering stages are critical but highly error-prone. Defects such as non-uniform coatings, cracks, pinholes, and curling are common, impacting overall quality. Additionally, drying alone consumes 40% of manufacturing energy and contributes to around 20% of the total cell manufacturing cost. By using non-contact defect detection, Sention Technologies Limited provides insights into electrode quality and identifies defects early.
