Autistic communication is often misunderstood. This is an example of the double empathy problem—the idea that autistic and non-autistic people communicate in different ways. Not wrong, just different. But because the world is built around non-autistic communication, misunderstandings often fall on us. Autistic people can be seen as blunt, disinterested, or even rude—when in reality, we’re just communicating in a way that feels natural to us. This is why I do the work I do—helping organisations better understand autistic communication and create environments where different styles of communication are respected, not misinterpreted.
