  • This is a common question we receive, and while it is possible, it’s also relatively rare. Many children remain in long-term placements with the same foster family, and some receive permission from the family court to stay with their foster family until they leave home. 🏠 It’s important to understand the difference between fostering and adoption. Fostering means you’re caring for someone else’s child as part of a wider support team and adoption means the child legally becomes yours and is no longer part of the foster system. • Parent & Child Fostering is a rewarding and fulfilling role! Parent and child fostering aims to prevent children from entering the foster care system by keeping families together. The goal is to support young parents in providing independent care for their child, with guidance and support every step of the way. By fostering a parent and child, you’re helping a family stay together and giving them the tools to thrive. Think you could make a difference for a family in need? • One of the most important skills a foster carer can learn is how to calm a child down. There will be times when you are put in situations that are new to you, or where your own children wouldn’t react the same way. While everything you do will come from a place of care and concern, there are ways that can help a foster child when things get tough. ✨ Go outside, Whether it's for a walk, sitting outside, or simply getting a change of scenery, this can help both you and the child handle things differently. ✨ Write it down, Keep a separate diary just for the foster child. When they feel frustrated, they can express their feelings in a book that’s theirs. ✨ Seek support, Reach out to your support group, call your social worker, and most importantly, don’t suffer in silence. if you want more information about how you can help a foster child, get in touch today! 📞07392 395581 📧info@rsdfostering.co.uk

  • True or False: Foster children are “bad” or “troubled”? False! Foster children are not inherently “bad” or “troubled.” Like all kids, their behaviours and experiences vary greatly. Many foster children have faced challenging situations, but those experiences don’t define who they are. It’s important to see them for their potential, resilience, and individuality and not the hardships they’ve been through
