  • 18,000 orchids rescued from a premature demise in Kerala, #India! 💮 Where trees are being removed for necessary infrastructure developments in the state, our pilot project has been busy collecting the important #orchid species living upon the branches of these trees, and moving them to a safe new home in the Sarovaram Biopark 🌳🌱 These orchids can be used not only for the direct #conservation of their species, but also to engage people with the plants that share their home. Take a look at what we're doing in this exciting initiative with Kerala State Council for Science, Technology, and Environment (KSCSTE) and the Malabar Botanic Garden 👇 https://lnkd.in/etE8XiSd

  • What does it take to save a cloud forest? 🌧️🌳 High in the misty peaks of the Dominican Republic, we’ve been training local forest rangers in a vital new skill: collecting and conserving seeds from some of the region’s most threatened tree species. As part of the Weston Global Tree Seed Bank Programme, our team joined forces with local partners to protect cloud forests. As the name implies, these are high-altitude rainforests with rich, biodiverse ecosystems. Yet, in some cases, under serious threat. Over one intense week, rangers learned everything from identifying ripe seeds to growing magnolias in nurseries. And now, these newly skilled rangers are helping to conserve critically endangered species like Podocarpus buchii and Juniperus gracilior, replanting them where they’re needed most. • Did you know it's #CommunityGardenWeek? At Wakehurst, our wild botanic garden in Sussex, we love hosting monthly Sow and Grow gardening clubs with our Community Access Scheme members. Not only do our members learn new skills, spend time connecting to nature, and work in a team, but the Community Garden looks great because of them! Our next Sow and Grow sessions are 28 April, 19 May and 16 June. If you're interested in hearing more about the Community Access Scheme at Wakehurst, or joining with your group, check it out here 👉 https://ow.ly/wKOl50Vvzsj
