Quality Support in Safe Hands
About us
Since 2004, Right Directions has been working with organisations, supporting them with guidance on health & safety, food safety, environmental management, quality management, pool management, data protection, human resources and employment law and training. We are primarily a support service, which helps facilities, teams and organisations improve their delivery standards and make sure they are keeping on the right side of the law. We care about the sport and leisure industry and are continuously working hard to ensure that our good reputation in quality and health and safety is maintained for years to come. On behalf of ukactive, we organise and deliver comprehensive health & safety audits for the fitness sector. We manage Quest, the UK Quality Award for Leisure Centres, which covers over 800 leisure facilities/ teams; we report to Sport England, Sport Scotland, Sport Wales and Sport Northern Ireland. We are responsible for training, recruiting and mentoring assessors. We provide helplines for assessors, mystery visitors and leisure facilities. Right Directions has a very passionate team of over 30 staff (with just under 600 years of sport and leisure management knowledge between them). Our team are dedicated, passionate and knowledgeable senior managers who have all worked up the career ladder. Our USP is that we have all worked at grassroots level, so we understand how facilities work and are not like normal consultants who give lots of advice, but don’t get their hands dirty!

Do you know what accident and incident information you should be reporting and what's RIDDOR reportable? It’s important to record all accidents regardless of seriousness. Recording accidents that result in ‘minor’ injuries are just as important as more serious accidents. For example, by recording accidents involving minor cuts to feet in changing rooms may highlight a trend that need to be addressed, such as broken tiles. For more information on what to report and what's RIDDOR reportable, check out our Accident Reporting training courses for frontline staff and managers: https://ow.ly/Pksb50VALTx It is a legal requirement under RIDDOR to report some accidents to the HSE. Only certain types of accident, incident or occurrence of ill-health must be reported. For a list of what must be reported, visit https://ow.ly/16Yo50VALTv, or contact Right Directions for advice: info@rightdirections.co.uk or 01582 840098. #RIDDOR #HSE #accidentreporting

April is Stress Awareness Month. Around 16.4 million working days were lost in 2024 because of work-related stress, anxiety or depression, with 19% of UK workers saying their employer has no measures in place to relieve work stress. (Health & Safety Executive) We may not be able to identify time off sick as a stress-related issue. If stress becomes too much to handle for staff, this may result in days taken as sick leave, which can have a detrimental impact on an organisation’s finances. Our info brief has been produced to assist managers in reducing stress within the workplace, knowing how best to react when stress is evident among employees, and taking appropriate action moving forward. Read the full info brief below or through this link: https://lnkd.in/eXRGtf-z #StressAwarenessMonth #stressmanagement #supportingstaff

Think back to 10 years ago – how often did you see an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) in a leisure centre? Chances are, not very often. Fast forward to today, and AEDs are now standard in most facilities. Could Automated Monitoring and Detection Systems follow a similar path? The truth is, technology is advancing at lightning speed. With just a few cameras, we can now get real-time insights into pool activity, helping lifeguards spot potential issues before they escalate. These systems are already adding an invaluable layer of safety, alerting operators to incidents before human eyes may catch them. But while these systems are a game-changer, there will always be an essential role for lifeguards. Technology can't replace the human touch – whether it's talking to pool users, preventing accidents, or performing rescues. Investing in technology can transform your facility, but thoughtful planning and collaboration are key to a successful implementation. Have you thought about all the key factors to ensure a smooth installation and long-term success? Get in touch for more guidance: info@rightdirections.co.uk or 01582 840098. #Innovation #PoolSafety #TechnologyinIeisure #Lifeguarding #FutureOfPools #RightDirections

Last week, David Chivers and Helen Meckiffe, along with dial-in sessions from Sarah Lobo and Paul Harpham, delivered a presentation on Health & Safety Consultancy to mentees of the Leisure Expert Panel Mentoring Programme at Bisham Abbey National Sports & Conferencing Centre. During the session, we looked closely at how leisure consultants and auditors can have a practical impact on organisations and improving standards within the industry, and how consultancy and auditing makes an overall difference. There were some great conversations and interaction with mentees and excellent feedback following the sessions! Thank you Serco Leisure and Laurie Jamie for providing the venue! #LEP #BishamAbbey #Serco #healthandsafety

72% of accidents reported on STITCH between January and December 2024 were not controllable. Having access to this type of data can be really significant for facilities in understanding where incidents are genuinely out of their hands, allowing them to focus their efforts on areas they can control. Knowing how to report accidents and incidents properly is the first step in taking meaningful action to prevent avoidable incidents. Our online Accident, Incident and Near Miss Reporting Training course covers cover compliance, legal responsibilities and RIDDOR, accident investigations and benchmarking, providing delegates with an understanding of why we report and review accidents, what should be recorded, responsibilities and an understanding of RIDDOR.
