Startups. Security. Defence.

About us

Resilience Conference is a curated event that will bring together international startups, investors, and customers in security, defence, and resilience. The event serves as a conduit for NATO and Allied Governments and primes to engage directly with the startup founders and investors who are creating the modern defence innovation ecosystem. This small team worked together on events around the world, producing some of the most impactful and innovative technology conferences. We want to turn our skills to helping the tech sector help make our democracies safer from the threats that now face us. Our contribution is to do what we know best - bringing together startup ecosystems to network, learn from each other, and share their lessons with the wider tech sector through media coverage.

The Paris summit on Ukraine, French president Emmanuel Macron outlined a framework for a European-led security effort in Ukraine. The idea is built around a “coalition of the willing” — countries ready to send support, even without full EU or NATO consensus. Macron sketched out three parts. First, more direct military aid to Ukraine. Second, a reassurance force — not on the front lines but in strategic areas — meant to offer a layer of deterrence. Third, a broader coordination effort to rearm Europe and speed up military planning. "There are a number of countries who are prepared - either through the air or with boots on the ground - to provide security guarantees to Ukraine,” said Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the event. "There are more countries like that and it is good news." There’s no agreement yet on deploying a European-led force. Macron admitted that some countries at the Paris summit opposed it. But he said consensus wasn’t needed to move forward. A group of committed states could act.

bringing impact with [do] nation book, helping startups at DarkStar

Big thanks to Oleksandr Ihnatenko for such a thoughtful piece and for capturing the full picture. I can add that personally I see a lot of value in involving international startups (7 promising companies this time). For Ukrainian teams, it’s an opportunity to step out of the bubble and realize that the world is also moving. For foreign guys — it’s a chance to go through what I call a “cosmonaut test”: the trial by fire of their products by Ukrainian soldiers. Fast, brutally honest and unforgiving:) Yes — we love pizza. Especially from Veterano. And we love people who love defense 💪

Wanted to research post-structuralist International Relations, ended up reporting on the Ukrainian Defense Tech because of the so-called Russia.

Key takeaways from Darkstar's latest bootcamp: 1. More and more European tech entrepreneurs are willing to come to Kyiv to learn. Had this happened earlier, more lives could have been saved. 2. Becoming a parent is what often pushes them to take up the challenge of Europe's security. 3. Having Veterano Pizza at a event instead of posh catering is a big game changer. • Napoleon once offered that old chestnut to strategists who were too focused on victory to notice failure. But what if we aren’t talking about an enemy, but a temporarily addled ally? All signs point to four years of chaos from the White House while existential threats—military, economic, and societal—mass on Europe’s borders. With all eyes on Wall Street, what must Europe do to protect Marszałkowska, the Champs-Élysées, and Unter den Linden? Europe, in short, will have to stop waiting and start acting. Today, the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is launching the Blue Manufacturing Initiative. This initiative will connect cutting-edge defense technology developers with a trusted manufacturing innovation base to scale production quickly, securely, and globally. “The Blue Manufacturing Initiative will focus on pairing the very best hardware and software manufacturers in defense technology with the very best advanced manufacturing providers to help both strategically critical industries to scale," said DIU Director Doug Beck. Vendors seeking to be accepted to the Blue Manufacturing marketplace can submit their solutions through an assessment process leveraging DIU’s new multi-stakeholder partnership authority. The initial Blue Manufacturing Marketplace cohort assessment will identify trusted manufacturing partners in six categories for Department needs. Submissions will remain open through May 9. • Is it too late to invest in Europe's defence tech ecosystem? Read this provocative opinion piece from Sami Moughrabie, founder and general partner of Atmos Ventures and Investment Advisor to NATO DIANA. Europe’s defence tech sector is booming, with VC funding hitting a record €5.2bn in 2024. Innovation hubs like Helsing (Germany), Blackshark.ai (Austria), and Orbotix (Romania) are leading the charge, spurred by rising government interest amid geopolitical instability. The UK alone earmarked £400m for defence innovation this week, allocating 10% of its equipment budget to emerging tech like drones and AI. Despite the momentum, Europe risks losing technological sovereignty. The sector lags five years behind the US, hindered by late-stage funding gaps, complex procurement, and a small domestic market. To stay competitive, European allies must collaborate and play to their strengths—or risk companies relocating to the US. Read more and let us know your thoughts https://lnkd.in/ex4khznZ

  • From the CEO and founder of Skyrora Ltd, Volodymyr Levykin: 'Now is the time for the UK to emphasise the growing opportunity that sovereign defence capabilities can harness when we tap more into space. Any investment into space catalyses tech development, so by investing more in defence (read space), you speed up innovation and the production process to end up with a better solution.'
