Congratulations to our newly promoted Special Constabulary Sergeants 📣✨ This month, we welcomed a new role into the ranks of our Special Constabulary and are thrilled to share our congratulations with our seven volunteer police officers who have been promoted to the new position of Special Constabulary Sergeant. The role of a Special Sergeant is to provide leadership, guidance and support other volunteer police officers in force. This new role will provide visible and accessible leadership within the Special Constabulary and will oversee wellbeing and welfare, individual and team performance, professional and personal development, and ensure high levels of motivation and morale to facilitate effective policing. Say hello to Response Officer PC Sam McCullagh 👋 Swapping the world of music and sound technology for frontline policing, Sam joined TeamNP in March 2022 through the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP). Now, he's a response officer in Sunderland enjoying the fast-paced and varied environment policing provides 👮♂️ Sam rediscovered an interest in policing during university and applied in his 3rd year. But, maybe it was always destined to be - with an underlying theme of public service running in the family from a great grandad who was a firefighter in the RAF, and his dad who worked as a police tech support officer. It's our different backgrounds, experiences and personalities that make NP such a great place to work. For Sam, he says the most important trait of being a good police officer is people skills; "being able to talk to people effectively in high-paced situations is a must - it's a skill everybody has it just takes practice." 💬 "You don't know what you're going to walk into at the beginning of a shift. Being able to support victims of crime and communities by conducting thorough investigations, communicating effectively, proactively targeting offenders and safeguarding vulnerable people makes the job very rewarding." If you're thinking about applying to be a police officer, Sam's advise is simple: just do it. "Everybody is capable of being an officer, and we can all bring something different to the force and the communities we serve. I wish I knew that there was so much more than just uniformed policing when I joined.
