Thanks for sharing your thoughts Helen Wright 💙💚 We wholeheartedly agree, by celebrating social care, we can raise awareness and understanding of its vital role in our communities. #CelebratingSocialCare
Did you know this April Skills for Care are #CelebratingSocialCare You might think, “Well, it is her job!” And yes, you're right but for me, the importance of celebrating social care has been shaped by my own personal experiences—some good, and some not so good. I value those who support individuals and their families. It takes a truly skilled person, someone whose core values include kindness, care, and compassion. These qualities can’t be trained—they’re innate. Just as unique as the needs of the individuals supported. I often think back to the days of banging saucepans on our doorsteps during the pandemic, acknowledging key workers who continued, despite the risks faced. While starting that tradition again might leave my neighbours scratching their heads, I’ve never forgotten. That’s why, when I’m out shopping or visiting a relative, I take a moment—when the timing feels right—to say thank you. Sometimes it’s met with surprise (“Who, me? I’m just doing my job!”), but it matters. You can tell how shining a light on teams and individual’s sees backs straighten and smiles appear – hear the pride in Rebecca’s voice when she shares Daisy’s story – this says it all for me. (watch out this might give you goosebumps) We need to be loud and proud—not only to recruit and retain further workforce, but because it’s the right thing to do. By celebrating social care, we can raise awareness and understanding of its vital role in our communities. Take the opportunity to share your story and celebrate social care @NorfolkCareCareers
