Our young person research engagement group, Leeds Young Research Owls (LYRO) have supported a successful application for the NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) Incubator programme. The NIHR Incubator programme provides career development support for researchers in key areas, helping to identify barriers to building research capacity and bringing together communities to develop solutions. Heather Rostron (pictured), Senior Research Nurse and lead for group said: "LYRO members and I were thrilled to hear that the bid was successful and we look forward to working with the incubator steering group further in the future." 📢 Exciting news from NIHR Leeds Clinical Research Facility! 💙 We’re thrilled to announce the arrival of a new cardiac ultrasound scanner at Leeds General Infirmary! 🏥💓 Thanks funding from Leeds Hospital Charity, we can now offer even more patients the opportunity to take part in groundbreaking cardiovascular research. So far, 750+ scans have been performed, helping us diagnose, monitor & improve treatments for heart disease. One patient shared: 🗣 “The scans were quick & painless, allowing my faulty heart valve to be monitored so the team could time my surgery perfectly.” Over the next 5 years, we’re expanding our cardiac ultrasound research, working towards becoming a national hub for echocardiography & cardiac science. 🌍🔬 #CardiacResearch #HeartHealth #NIHRLeedsCRF #MedicalInnovation #ClinicalTrials

🦉 Our Leeds Young Research Owls, a group that meets regularly to explore clinical research, recently attended the Children and Young People’s Involvement in Health and Social Care Research: Making Connections event in Birmingham. This inspiring event, organised by NIHR (National Institute for Health and Care Research) and GenerationR, aimed to celebrated and strengthened young people’s understanding and involvement in research. Guided by Senior Research Nurse Heather Rostron, the Owls took part in discussions on how they can shape and support research. They also had the unique opportunity to work on a PhD proposal project, gaining first-hand experience of the research proposal process. Amazing to see young people actively engaging in research and developing skills that will shape the future of healthcare! 🔬💡 Read more here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eje_CfW6
