About us
We’re a business that understands when our customers and people succeed, our communities succeed, and our economy thrives. As part of our purpose, we’re looking at how we can drive change for our communities in enterprise, learning and climate. As one of the leading supporters of UK business, we’re prioritising enterprise as a force of change. We’re focusing on the people and communities who have traditionally faced the highest barriers to entry and figuring out ways to remove these. Learning is also key to our continued growth as a company in an ever changing and increasingly digital world. By setting a dynamic and leading learning culture, our people prosper, and our customers are given the tools to continue to improve their financial capability and confidence. One of the biggest challenges we all face in our future is climate change. That’s why we’ve put it right at the core of our purpose. We want to champion climate solutions with financing and entrepreneurial support, fully embed climate into our culture and decision making, and be climate positive by 2025. We’re committed to using our purpose to break down barriers, drive change and ultimately create a great place to work.

“To be celebrating 10 years of Accelerator is a huge milestone for us. We’ve got loads of exciting things changing within the programme.” Meet Sophie, a familiar face to so many start-ups in the North East, as she’s an integral part of our Newcastle Entrepreneur Accelerator hub team – and one of many colleagues supporting businesses across the UK to grow and scale. To mark a decade of our Accelerator programme, we’re upping our ambition and aiming to support over 10,000 entrepreneurs this year alone. As the UK’s biggest bank for business, we know the vital role fostering a region’s entrepreneurial ecosystem can play in growing local economies. As Sophie puts it, "the North East is a really exciting place for entrepreneurs to be and we’re at the centre of it". Over to you Sophie 🎥 ⤵️ NatWest Business Sophie Gowling

“I don’t think I’ve ever felt that as a female that I couldn’t progress, but certainly that my background was not the type of background shared by many others I worked with when I moved into Financial Services.” Sam Bowerman grew up in a working-class household in Essex and joined the bank in 2003. She is a passionate advocate for socio-economic diversity in the workplace and recently became the new co-sponsor of Socio-economic Diversity. Her experience underscores the importance of socio-economic background as a determinant of career progression, and Sam's leading the charge to ensure new strategies are enacted to break down barriers. At the bank, we have a working group dedicated to addressing socio-economic diversity. In 2025, we're focusing on 3 main themes: 1️⃣ Education and awareness: Raising visibility on the benefits of social mobility and how everyone can play a role in supporting it 2️⃣ Career Progression: Identifying and addressing systemic barriers to advancement 3️⃣ Addressing Regional and Intersectional Challenges: Collaborating with regional teams to develop tailored solutions Sam emphasizes, “Diversity is crucial; we must reflect the diverse socio-economic landscape of the customers we serve.” #DiversityAndInclusion #CareerDevelopment #WorkCulture #NatWestGroupCareers

We’re supporting the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Myanmar Earthquake Appeal through our strategic partnership with DEC. A powerful 7.7 magnitude earthquake has devastated huge areas of Myanmar and the death toll continues to rise. DEC charities are already on the ground in affected communities and are working hard to access remote areas. We’re donating £100,000 to the DEC Myanmar Earthquake Appeal and supporting customers and colleagues to donate. Donate using this link: https://lnkd.in/epCE9xTR

Our ambition to support the social housing sector continues to grow, and we’re now working with the National Wealth Fund to deliver £500m of funding for social housing retrofit across the UK. The lending aims to help registered providers of social housing reduce energy consumption and accelerate the decarbonisation of their housing stock. Commenting on the funding announcement, our CEO Paul Thwaite said: “NatWest Group continues to be a leading lender to the UK social housing sector, and last month we upgraded our lending ambition to £7.5 billion as demand continues to grow. Working with the National Wealth Fund on deploying £500 million of new loans means we can help retrofit more social homes across the UK at pace – supporting those who need it most.” More here: https://lnkd.in/eaKSkrCa NatWest Commercial and Institutional | Royal Bank of Scotland Business | Ulster Bank
