We're excited to feature in The Washington Post's big new piece on the future of concrete - the 2nd most used material on Earth (after water). The piece captures the challenges and opportunities in the industry, highlights our proprietary alkali fusion process, and features some great shots of our R&D team (who the Washington Post calls "very focused bunnies"). Our #MeetMevo series is back: Coming off the Google for Startups accelerator last week, we wanted to share more about our incredible data team and what they’re working on. 🤖 Through our unique use of AI and ML, Sonu Mariam George, Calum Towler and James Cooper have developed a tool to predict how different materials will perform as feedstocks in our ultra-low carbon cement. Our proprietary Formulation Prediction Tool gives us a path to quickly evaluate if specific wastes, industrial byproducts, and low-value natural materials can be used to create MevoCem – saving our R&D team months of testing. In laymen's terms, it helps us on our journey to be able to combine a new set of unfamiliar ingredients to create the perfect recipe every time. 🍳 Interested in finding out how? It was a great honour to represent Material Evolution at the AI First Google for Startups Accelerator in Berlin with Hayley Moller. It was a fantastic week meeting so many amazing founders and technical leads, and learning about their challenges. I can’t wait to implement what I’ve learnt and for the rest of the program! Watch this space for more about how we use AI to predict material properties and lower R&D costs for developing green cement! #AcceleratedWithGoogle #cement #netzero

It’s time to #MeetMevo: Introducing our latest recruit Othmane BOUCHENAFA, our new material scientist! 🎤 Othmane brings eight years of experience in the cement sector to the role, mixing both academic and private research to support our product development and customer adoption. He’s especially passionate about recovering inert waste, a perfect match for our circular economy vision. ♻️🌍 And when he’s not working on cutting-edge materials solutions, you’ll find him glued to F1 races or soaking up the Mediterranean sun with a bottle of Selecto in hand. 🏎️🏖️ We’re beyond excited to have him on board. Welcome to Mevo, Othmane! #MeetMevo #MeetTheTeam #SustainableConstruction #ConcreteRevolution #MaterialsScience

If someone had told Unreasonable Fellow Elizabeth Gilligan years ago that she’d be running a cement company, she probably would have laughed. But one experiment led to another, first in a converted garage, then with machines bought off eBay, until she found herself at the helm of Material Evolution, leading a breakthrough in ultra-low carbon cement. Liz is tackling one of the world’s biggest environmental problems: cement production, a major contributor to global emissions. Using AI-driven alkali-fusion technology, her company has developed a process that cuts carbon by up to 85% without sacrificing strength or performance. In just five years, they’ve scaled from grams of material to an 18-ton-an-hour production facility, securing major investment and industry recognition along the way. Liz has been selected to join the Unreasonable Impact UK & Europe 2025 cohort, a collaboration between Unreasonable and Barclays dedicated to scaling businesses that merge profit and impact. Through this programme, Material Evolution will gain access to world-class mentorship, resources, and a powerful global network to accelerate its growth and maximise its impact.
