It's been another busy few weeks as the Magpie team have been out and about making impact ✨ Our Community Collaboration Manager Michelle Budd was in Lupset meeting some wonderful Lived Experience champions who are contributing to our cancer screening project with West Wakefield Primary Care Network Conexus Healthcare. Gerard Savva hosted more future leaders from Common Purpose, this time a cohort of students from the University of Leeds including Medicines, Psychology, Computer Engineering and AI, Politics, History and English. We explored some interesting topics around behaviour change and wellbeing management, and it was great to see such a passion for enterprise and social impact, thank you to all who joined! Saransh Ahuja and Louise Hallworth were excited to head to Liverpool to present our findings for the Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority Waste Disposal Project - utilising in-depth behavioural insight and collaboration activity to encourage better and more sustainable practices. It was truly an afternoon of glowing feedback and beaming smiles! And finally, it's always a real joy for our team to see our creative development work on display in the big wide world! (We've loved supporting Shelter with their 'let them be loved again' campaign and there's lots more to come on this one...) 🌟

This is a new one for us, as today we’re celebrating Purple Day. Working with the team at Epilepsy Action we’ve learnt a LOT about this misunderstood and overlooked condition. Most people think epilepsy is uncommon, caused by flashing lights, is about people falling over, and is not that serious. We’re working with Epilepsy Action to make epilepsy visible. 💜 626,000 people in the UK are living with epilepsy. That’s around 1 in 100 people. 💜 79 people are diagnosed every single day. 💜 There are over 60 types of seizures. 💜 Every year 1,000 people die from epilepsy. In recognition of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we have been reflecting on the outcomes of a session we delivered as part of our 24 Ideas for 2024; exploring neuroinclusivity through a delicate mix of lived experience story-telling and person-centred exploration of what workplaces can do to support their neurodivergent clients, colleagues, and collaborators. Our Director of Behavioural Insights, Dr Julie Van de Vyver, shared her own personal story with neurodivergence. She spoke about the power of creating neuro-inclusive and psychologically safe environments, and the dangers of not. New data highlights the impact of Leeds City Bikes on travel habits across the city! Since launching in September 2023: ✅ 42% of riders have returned to cycling after a break ✅ 55% are cycling more often ✅ 33% are using their car less ✅ 40% use the bikes for commuting – higher than the average across all Beryl schemes With almost 23,000 users and over 112,000 journeys, Leeds City Bikes is helping to cut congestion, improve air quality, and make sustainable travel easier! We are so pleased to see the impact of the Leeds City Bikes scheme. We were commissioned in 2022 by Connecting Leeds to help develop a future-proof brand that was co-created with people of Leeds. It's wonderful to see the scheme continuing to have such a positive impact in Leeds (friendly reminder, there's a Beryl Bay right outside our office on Duke Street if you fancy popping by!)

This National No Smoking Day, we know that current data highlights a pressing need for further investment in behaviour change initiatives: the UK’s smoking costs have soared to an estimated £21.8 billion*, affecting health services, local authorities, and lost productivity. Reflecting on a successful timeline of work with public and third sector collaborators, we’re proud of the power of creative behaviour change in shaping a smokefree future for our children and communities. We thought we would seize this moment to share some key campaign moments as you think about the journey ahead. If you’re interested in hearing more about the shared learnings from our smoking intervention portfolio or exploring how we can collaborate on future initiatives, we’d love to hear from you. https://lnkd.in/gSMBJKVu #NoSmokingDay #QuitToday #SmokeFreeFuture Kirklees Council Barnsley Council Wakefield Council Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Magpie (Creative Behaviour Change Agency) reposted this
What activities motivate you and add value to your colleagues and clients? It’s been a rewarding few weeks, full of new learning opportunities, collaborations, connections and social value. However, not all of this has been part of my day job as cofounder of Magpie (Creative Behaviour Change Agency). I've been reflecting on the extra activities I engage in to continually deliver value to clients and inspire others around me. Find out more in my latest article...

Team Magpie were proud to exhibit, talk at and take part in yesterday's Behavioural Science Public Health Network (BSPHN) conference in #Liverpool. We were reminded it was just eight years ago that BSPHN put forward the case for embedding behavioural science into Public Health and more practitioners in the field. In this ever changing world, it's important to us to attend events like this and stay ahead with the latest developments, practice and theories so we can add more value to our clients' projects. Linda Bauld’s keynote talk on mis and disinformation touched on falling levels of trust in vaccines for young adults, how many young children don’t trust textbooks because they don’t know who the author is, and focussed on infodemics (unreliable information that spreads fast). The talk introduced the need for more ‘prebunking’ - preemptively debunking disinformation by publishing an account of that disinformation along with a simultaneous refutation before the disinformation itself is disseminated. We also enjoyed a thoroughly enlightening talk from Greg Fell, Sheffield's Director of Public Health, as he shared insights into successfully combating anti-lobbies; taking a 'human-centred approach' to behaviour change campaigns, and adopting a skilful and wilful use of PR for public health narratives and shaping the policy ecosystem. Our Head of Behavioural Insight Dr Julie Van de Vyver and Lead Campaign Consultant Louise Hallworth wowed attendees with an oral presentation exploring our award-winning campaign for Hertfordshire County Council and Magpie’s Co-founder Gerard Savva, Lead Behavioural Strategist Saransh Ahuja and Senior Researcher Mirela Neto were on hand exhibiting posters with a spotlight on ‘Designing for Diversity: A Human-Centred Approach to Navigating NHS Services Amidst a Changing Population’ as well as ‘Health Inequalities on the Move: Community-Engaged Behaviour Change for Active Childhoods’. The Magpie team left the conference feeling uplifted and resolute in our goal to take on some of society's biggest challenges, applying our unique level of expertise and insight to ensure we're 'keeping ahead of change'. Watch this space! Great to catch up with Dr Nicky Knowles (CPsychol) Steve Johnson Ian Fannon Timothy Parry Nick Godbehere (CMRS) Ameze Simbo Dr Shanara A. “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much. “ - Helen Keller Our Community Collaboration and Impact team were out in force today, partnering with Tina Leslie MBE (FRSA) and Leeds City Council to host a pilot ‘Community collaboration networking event’ for East #Leeds. Thanks to CATCH Leeds for providing the perfect setting. 60 participants attended including community leaders and changemakers from voluntary, community, charity and public sector organisations. The event encouraged networking, new collaborations and partnership working - all centred around social change. There was a buzz in the room this sunny Friday as new relationships were formed, existing relationships strengthened and new opportunities unearheted. Special thanks to our Community Collaboration Manager Michelle Budd for facilitating and setting the agenda and to our Community Impact Consultant Emma Wragg for supporting the event. Positive conversations were had around how we can work together to make campaigns more impactful and to strengthen assets based community development. Thank you to everyone who came, connected and gave such positive feedback - far too many organisations to name and more news and updates to come as we hope to grow this across Leeds and beyond 🙏
