We're proud to announce that today marks a new beginning for our partnership with Transport for London (TfL) as we continue to collaborate together operating the Docklands Light Railway network. Our collaboration with TfL has achieved significant milestones over the years, from record-high ridership levels and picking up 16 industry awards, through to achieving exceptional customer satisfaction scores and the highest safety standards. This new contract will not only strengthen our partnership with TfL, but also place greater focus on operational performance, planned network improvements, and increased frontline staff to tackle fare evasion and antisocial behaviour. This International Mentoring Day, we’re proud to highlight our mentoring programme, designed to foster professional growth, encourage collaboration, and support our colleagues at every stage of their careers. Mentoring at KAD is more than just guidance; it’s a shared learning and development journey. By connecting employees with experienced mentors, we create opportunities for skill enhancement, career advice, and personal support, helping each other thrive in their roles. Nathan Winchester-Smith, Vehicle Maintainer: “For me having the opportunity to be a mentee has been one of the most powerful aspects of being on the ETP. It has required a lot of commitment to my development and a willingness to step outside my comfort zone to grow. Growth is a continuous process and being a mentee has given this process more structure and direction. I have found that having this mentor/mentee relationship has fostered a safe environment that empowers me to succeed and become an active participant in my development, willing to make mistakes and reflect on them constructively to improve. After being a mentee for six months I now find myself asking more of the right questions, reflecting on my own decisions, challenging when appropriate and overall becoming a more confident individual who seeks more opportunities and knowledge to broaden my worldview. Meet Bhavishka Seewoo: A Journey of Growth at KeolisAmey Docklands (KAD) "When I joined KAD as a Passenger Service Agent (PSA) in 2018, I was excited about the opportunities ahead. Coming from a background in the rail industry, I saw KAD as more than just a job—it was a chance to grow, learn, and make a real difference. Looking back on my journey, I’m incredibly proud of how much I’ve developed, both professionally and personally." From day one, Bhavishka embraced the fast-paced and dynamic nature of the PSA role, but always kept an eye on their long-term ambitions. Passionate about operations, she aspired to become a Control Room Controller, travelling across the country to learn from various control rooms through the Chartered Institute of Railway Operations. While initial attempts to secure the role were unsuccessful, these experiences led Bhavishka to reassess her goals and explore new opportunities. During the pandemic, Bhavishka worked closely with depot teams, gaining invaluable insights into the behind-the-scenes operations that keep the railway running. Inspired by the scale and precision of the engineering teams, she sought guidance from KAD’s Engineering Director, whose mentorship helped open new doors. Today, Bhavishka thrives as a Track Technical Officer within the Track team! Over the past three years, Bhavishka has achieved remarkable milestones, including: ⭐ Gained a forklift license and completed training in Track Patrol, Critical Rail Temperature Management, Local Electrical Protection, and Track Handback ⭐ Undertaking a track engineering diploma with the The PWI ⭐ Attending weekly Permanent Way classes with Transport for London "Walking the tracks, ensuring their safety for daily operations, and contributing to key projects gives me a real sense of accomplishment. It’s a constant reminder of the impact we have in keeping the railway moving." In addition to the technical role, Bhavishka is passionate about inspiring others. Supporting Community Ambassador team, Bhavishka actively participates in school outreach programmes, encouraging young people to consider careers in the rail industry and demonstrating the wide range of opportunities available. "KAD has supported me every step of the way! From training programmes to mentorship, the opportunities here have been exceptional. This journey has made me more confident, adaptable, and determined to reach my goals."
