We’re delighted to introduce Calum Hume, Head of APAC at James Fisher Renewables, who joined us in late 2024. Calum is part of the team on the ground at Wind Expo in Japan this week. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e-MgDdKb To find out more about Calum, read our Q&A with him below. Q: Could you provide a brief overview of your career history/education/training? A: “I started my career in 1986 as a Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship with GE Caledonian in Prestwick and worked there for 23 years, rising to a GE Aircraft Engine Power Plant Engineer. This early experience shaped my focus on getting quality, integrity and delivery right first time. Employing apprentices and giving the training and hands on experience is invaluable and something we need to continue, to ensure we pass on skills and knowledge to future generations. “In 2008, I moved into Renewables with SSE for 12 years and watched the massive change in wind from a niche industry to mainstream acceptance as part of the energy transition. I finished as an O&M Manager, looking after all of SSE’s onshore and offshore assets across the UK & Ireland. “After a short stint launching Adamas Wind during the pandemic, I moved to APAC in 2020 as O&M Director at SRE in Taiwan on their F1 & F2 projects. After a 2-year return to the UK to deliver O&M readiness on EDF’s NnG offshore wind project, I returned to APAC in October 2024 to lead the James Fisher Renewables team in delivering our services across the region.” Q: What are your core roles and responsibilities at James Fisher? A: “It’s an all-round role, from meeting customers, partners, government and industry bodies and suppliers, to ensuring our colleagues are safe, engaged and their views and innovative ideas are heard. I travel across the region and spend time in Taiwan, Japan and Korea talking to stakeholders at different stages in their wind energy journey, from development and construction through the O&M life, to ultimately decommissioning or life extension of assets.” Q: What do you enjoy the most about working in the renewables sector? A: “Every day is different.” Q: What excites you most about the opportunities for renewables in Japan? A: “The opportunity to use the knowledge and experience gained from projects in the UK, Europe and Taiwan to accelerate the growth in offshore wind energy in Japan.” Q: What are your hobbies outside of work? A: “I have raced nearly everything with wheels from bicycles, moto-x bikes and quadbikes to go karts and saloon cars.” #OneJamesFisher #Offshorewind Smart Energy Week’s Wind Expo #APAC

We are really proud and privileged to have had the opportunity to hold a stakeholder session at The Carbon Trust last week, bringing together OEMs, agencies, T&T companies, and training providers to discuss and address the critical issues within HV Jointing in offshore wind. Collectively we discussed the challenges and proposed solutions, which will form part of a formal study we are conducting in collaboration with the Carbon Trust. Thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed, and to The Carbon Trust for hosting. We look forward to analysing the feedback and preparing our findings. If you have any thoughts or trend analysis you would like to share, please do get in touch with Ross Piercey or Karolina Zieba #highvoltage #jointing #offshorewind #netzero
James Fisher Renewables (part of James Fisher and Sons plc), in collaboration with the Carbon Trust and other key stakeholders, recently tackled a critical issue facing the offshore wind sector— HV Jointers' quality and quantity. This challenge is essential to ensuring the industry's rapid growth isn't slowed by potential failures. We held an insightful stakeholder session at our office in London, bringing together OEMs, agencies, T&T companies, and training providers. The goal? To identify challenges and propose solutions that will shape a formal study. These findings will be instrumental in meeting future demands, preparing for the transition to 132kV IAC, and ensuring a sustainable workforce through consistent workmanship and dedicated training. A big thank you to everyone who participated! 👏 We're excited to analyse your valuable feedback and move forward with the next steps. If you have any thoughts or trend analyses to share, please get in touch with Karolina Zieba.
