From Point Cloud to Sheet Metal: HiCAD Modules Make Bicycle Bridge a Reality To build a uniquely curved steel bicycle bridge over the Haarlemmertrekvaart in the Netherlands, J. van Belzen faced a truly complex design challenge. Thanks to HiCAD’s industry-specific modules, such as the sheet metal and point cloud tools, the bridge was not only engineered in detail but also made fully manufacturable. ✨ Meet the Colleague: Sybren! ✨ This month, we’re putting Sybren Beljaars in the spotlight! Sybren has been part of ISD Benelux since March 2016 and works as an Application Consultant. But how did he end up here, and what makes his work so interesting? Time to get to know him better! Sybren actually joined ISD by chance, but after a great conversation, he decided to take the leap. Although his studies in Mechatronics and Technical Business Administration didn’t directly align with his role, his interest in process improvement turned out to be a perfect fit for large projects. As an Application Consultant, Sybren helps customers set up software, optimize workflows, and provide training. Some projects are short-term, but for larger projects, like a HELiOS implementation, he is involved for a longer period. "What I enjoy the most are the projects where I’m not just executing tasks but also thinking strategically. A HELiOS implementation involves defining workflows that impact the entire company, not just the design department. This means engaging with all levels of an organization, which makes it both challenging and exciting." Sybren is particularly proud of his work with Martin Stolze and Eqraft, two companies where he assisted with the HELiOS implementation. "At Martin Stolze, it was a completely new implementation, so we also had to think ahead toward an ERP integration. At Eqraft, HELiOS was already set up, but it wasn’t fully utilized yet. The challenge here was mainly to create support within the company so that both the designers and the workshop understood the system and saw its benefits." Even though his work is often a "one-man show," Sybren regularly collaborates with programmers and colleagues on various projects. He finds it important to help both customers and colleagues grow and continues to develop himself by taking on new responsibilities. "I recently started working on the TAC program (Technical Account Consultant), where I help companies find ways to further develop themselves. This keeps me continuously challenged." At ISD, Sybren especially appreciates the freedom he gets to shape his own development. "It’s a relaxed work environment where colleagues are always ready to help. Even though you often work independently, it really feels like one team working towards the best results and satisfied customers." Sybren had a memorable marketing moment during carnival. "We had to send a funny picture to the marketing team. So, I sent an email with a silly face and a wig… but not to Lieske from ISD, but to a customer who also had a designer named Lieske. In the spotlight in our Construction Calendar this month: an innovative mountain station concept that combines craftsmanship and precision! NEUBAU BERGSTATION, HEXENWASSER, SÖLL For this project, delivered by Metallbau Wilhelmer Projekt GmbH in Austria, 72 gondolas were designed, each telling its own story during the ride. Our team carried out the metalwork (stairs, railings, gratings) and structural steelwork, and realized a Fundermax panel facade with architectural stripes, curved columns, and bent elements. Thanks to advanced features such as ‘connecting sheet’, ‘bending simulation’, and ‘sheet along sketch’, we were able to perfectly realize the complex, three-dimensionally curved and tapered steel building column.
