About us

At Ipsum, we provide specialist infrastructure services across the UK’s regulated water and energy companies and private sector businesses. We work with our customers to maintain, optimise and develop their above and below ground assets to ensure security and resilience, and with our smart systems and ways of working, we ensure we deliver on time, on budget and safely. At Ipsum, we develop long-term working relationships with our customers by providing essential utility services on both public and private networks. We have many long-term contracts and framework arrangements in place which are built upon great customer service, safe working practices and the ability to flex and deploy specialist skillsets at short notice. The growth of Ipsum has been built upon our people and our ability to meet the demanding and ever-changing needs of our customers. The UK utility sector is evolving and expanding to meet increasing customer demand, regulatory-driven outcomes and to exploit new innovative technologies, at Ipsum we will continue to grow in this sector by being a reliable, flexible and agile service partner that helps customers meet these new challenges. As we know, utility service provision is not a 9 to 5 business, our customers don’t switch off their networks or assets at night, or at the weekends, or on holidays, or when things are quiet. They need them to work round the clock – and we at Ipsum are right beside them 24/7 to make sure they do. We pride ourselves in providing specialist scheduled maintenance services, being able to respond to an individual call-out or mobilise onto a major upgrade project and that our customers can rely on Ipsum 24/7/365.

Ever wondered what it takes to power up a high-street supermarket?      When installing a new transformer, safety is paramount. Working in a live environment means that one wrong move could disrupt operations.     Recently, our Private Networks team tested a brand-new transformer at our Wakefield facility, ensuring the equipment met all quality and performance standards before being transported to Antrim, Northern Ireland.     This transformer plays a vital role in stepping down high-voltage electricity from the grid to a safer, usable level. It was carefully offloaded and integrated into the existing electrical network, becoming a key component of the supermarket’s operations. By replacing the old transformer with a new one, the supermarket can benefit from improved energy efficiency, reduced maintenance costs, and enhanced reliability in its power supply, essential for smooth, uninterrupted operations.     Following the efficient removal of the old transformer, both high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) cables were connected. After performing pre-commissioning checks, the system was safely energised, guaranteeing reliable power delivery to the supermarket’s operations.     #Ipsum #Utilities #Industry #Power #Electrical #Solutions #Innovation #Engineering #Energy #Efficiency #Transformers #ProjectManagement

We welcomed MP for Leicester South, Shockat Adam MP, to one of our local sites. Our Framework Director for Severn Trent, Simon Aylott-Cleaver and Regional Manager, John Mitchell, explained how we approach relining sewer pipes utilising no-dig technology and why this method is key to reducing disruption to the local community and impact on the environment.   The work we do with Severn Trent is crucial to maintaining a resilient wastewater network across the Midlands. It is a proactive approach to network maintenance, as by relining the sewer pipes, we are extending its life by approximately 70 years. This allows the pipes to continue taking wastewater from residential properties to the treatment works and reduce the chance of pollution caused by blockages. And a no-dig methodology has significant environmental benefits, in comparison to a traditional open cut method, this project reduced CO2e by an approximate 80% (660 tonnes). #Ipsum #Utilities #Water #Infrastructure #TrenchlessTechnology #SewerPipes #NetZero #Community

Ipsum secures unlooping project from Electricity North West ➿ Some older properties in the UK were built with a ‘looped’ electricity supply. Meaning that rather coming directly from the mains supply it was looped from the property next door. However, as the UK transitions to carbon energy sources in order to hit its Net Zero targets, properties will require ‘unlooping’ to support an increased demand that comes from the likes of electric vehicle (EV) chargers, solar panels and heat pumps. Lee Maxwell, MD of Power at Ipsum, said: “We’re proud to be partnering with Electricity North West to facilitate the unlooping of almost 600 properties in Manchester. It marks a significant step in the UK’s transition to Net Zero, readying the public for the transition to electric vehicles and heat pumps. “We’ve worked with Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) on unlooping programmes before. Our inhouse expertise means we can cover the programme of works from early-stage planning and design to execution and handover.” Read the full story on our website 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8yQTGK5  #Ipsum #Power #Electricity #UKEnergy #Energy #ElectricityNorthWest #Manchester #Unlooping

As part of our ESG journey, we’ve recently partnered with social value platform OnHand • the impact platform to make giving back easier than ever for our people. Through OnHand, a team of Ipsum volunteers used one of their two annual employee volunteering days to help restore a crucial habitat for the UK’s fastest declining bird species – the Willow Tit.    The team spent the day at Moses Gate in Bolton with the Wet Willow Wildlife Project to plant 900 trees, supporting with the restoration and preservation of the bird’s habitat. Supporting initiatives like this allows us to give something back in a way that has a lasting impact and aligns with our desire to work with our local communities, not just in them.    #Ipsum #Utilities #ESG #CSR #CommunityEngagement #biodiversity  #Conservation #TreePlantingInitiative #VolunteerImpact #SustainableFuture

Today we can reveal a significant reduction in storm overflow spills across the North West, despite more rainfall in 2024 and nine named storms. Official figures released by the Environment Agency confirm our annual event duration monitoring (EDM) submission reporting a 31% reduction in spill duration, with the number of spills from storm overflows falling by 20%. That’s 19,720 fewer spills compared to the previous year: https://lnkd.in/enTi6YBG  Over the next five years, we’ll undertake the largest ever investment in water and wastewater services in the North West, spending more than £13 billion to deliver for the environment, improve the health of rivers and seas and tackle leakage. As part of this investment, we’ll tackle more than 1,100 storm overflows and reduce activations by over 60% by 2030 delivering the step change people want to see. #stormoverflows #rivers #betterrivers #investment
