“I’M ONLY HERE FOR DE BEERS”: Campaign launch or time machine? 👀 We’re super excited to announce the recent partnership between dentsu, News UK and Netflix that delivered a jaw-dropping campaign for ‘The Diamond Heist’ - Guy Ritchie’s first documentary that’s just launched on #Netflix. If you’ve never heard of ‘The Diamond Heist’ – where have you been? The attempted theft of the 203-carat De Beers Diamond (worth £350 million) from the Millennium Dome in 2000 was a cultural moment that shocked the nation (UK). The aim of the partnership’s campaign was to recreate the media buzz of November 9th, 2000. By mimicking the news cycle from ‘way back when’, the campaign created a sense of déjà vu, to allow audiences connect with both the historical event and Netflix’s new documentary. The campaign's centrepiece is The Sun newspaper, cover-wrapped with a recreation of its original headline from the day of the heist- "I'M ONLY HERE FOR DE BEERS"- recognised as one of the top 10 newspaper headlines from the past 50 years. This was the first time that The Sun has ever recreated one of its historic front pages as a cover wrap. Combined with strategic placements throughout the paper and across various radio networks and social media platforms, topped off with a special-build billboard containing a real diamond – this campaign shows what happens when creativity, insight and audacity collide.
