IoD Scotland reposted this
Our latest edition of Business HQ Monthly at The Herald Scotland, out today, features a major exclusive poll of Scottish business leaders. The views revealed, on a range of questions on matters including the relative performances of the Scottish and UK governments and on whether Sir Keir Starmer’s administration will mitigate the detrimental effects of Brexit, make for very interesting reading. So too do business leaders' views on whether the Labour government has got off to a good start on business and the economy, and on how the performance of the SNP administration at Holyrood is perceived to have altered with the change at the top last year. I very much enjoyed designing the questions for this poll in what has been a turbulent economic and political landscape. And it was fascinating to analyse the numbers when they came in from the survey, conducted with the Institute of Directors in Scotland, as I composed this month’s big read. Many thanks to the IoD Scotland and Catherine McWilliam as well as to Lisa Donnelly for a great partnership on this major poll. Grateful to IoD Glasgow and West of Scotland chair, Mark Spragg for taking part in this discussion on our behalf. #ConnectingLeaders #VisibleLeadership
Delighted to welcome Liz Barclay the Office of the Small Business Commissioner to ACCA’s office in Glasgow, as we hosted a roundtable discussion about fair payment. With participants from business, government and academia we had a useful conversation about payment practices in the UK and where it can go wrong - poor communication, lack of time and knowledge, unfair contracts, bad culture, lack of reliable, consistent data to define the problem and demonstrate the value of paying fairly, why automated systems still fail, and more. Keen to think about how we build up research and case study evidence about how the issues manifest in Scottish businesses and how the new Fair Payment Code can help.
