As our airlines prepare for a busy travel period, new research from IAG underscores just how vital aviation is to an island nation like the UK. The findings reinforce what we’ve always known - aviation isn’t just about getting from A to B. It plays a crucial role in keeping families and friends connected across borders, with more than half of UK adults having close friends or relatives living overseas. Beyond connectivity, aviation is a powerful driver of economic growth, fuelling investment, employment, and supply chains. In fact, one in nine Britons personally knows someone working in the industry. Explore the key insights below. #Aviation #InternationalAirlinesGroup #Travel

International Airlines Group (IAG) and Microsoft are extending our co-funded Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) purchase agreement for another five years. Microsoft will co-fund an additional 39,000 tonnes of SAF, helping cut approximately 113,000 tonnes of lifecycle carbon emissions. It’s the largest and longest Scope 3 SAF agreement to date between an airline and a corporate customer, according to publicly available data. By partnering with corporate customers like Microsoft, IAG can purchase more SAF, reducing our Scope 1 (direct) emissions. Corporate customers benefit from lowering Scope 3 (indirect) emissions from a proportion of their corporate flying. ✈️ Read more: https://lnkd.in/eFBvN-Q6 #SAF #Decarbonisation #Microsoft #IAG #Sustainability

Throughout March, the UK Government has been gathering feedback on a proposed revenue certainty mechanism (RCM) for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The UK has the opportunity to lead in SAF production, cutting emissions, while driving investment, jobs, and energy security and with the right support, could add £1.8 billion annually to the UK economy and create more than 10,000 jobs. But if we get this wrong, extra costs could hold us back. IAG has responded to the consultation, which closed yesterday. Here, our Chief Sustainability Officer, Jonathon Counsell, explains why getting the detail right is crucial. #SustainableAviationFuel #SAF #AviationPolicy

Heathrow has become the world’s most expensive airport but without a customer experience to match the cost. Despite spending £15 billion in the last 20 years, Heathrow operates some of the world’s oldest terminal buildings. Now, four of the world’s leading associations representing airlines, the travel community and travel management companies have joined the #HeathrowReimagined campaign. A very warm welcome on board to The Advantage Travel Partnership, The BTA (Business Travel Association), World Travel & Tourism Council and BAR UK LTD. Together with Arora Group, Heathrow AOC (Airline Operators Committee), Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines and International Air Transport Association (IATA), we are calling on the Civil Aviation Authority for an urgent review into the way Heathrow is regulated – for the benefit of consumers, business and the UK economy. https://lnkd.in/eFteYHYP

Wastefront has officially started construction on the UK’s first tyre-to-fuel facility in #Sunderland. International Airlines Group (IAG)’s Jonathon Counsell, Leigh Hudson and Jim Davies were on site to celebrate this step forward for the UK sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) industry. Once up and running, the plant will turn waste tyres into much-needed, domestically produced #SAF and create jobs in the region. Last year IAG powered 1.9% of its operations using SAF, but there needs to be even greater policy support to help innovators like Wastefront scale new technologies to meet growing SAF demand.
