  • 📢 Brazil Central Bank president calls for more power to block illegal betting sites. https://lnkd.in/eH-YAecG Gabriel Galípolo, President of the Central Bank of Brazil, told the Parliamentary Inquiry Commission on betting that the bank doesn’t hold the necessary powers to block unlicensed operators. 🚓 Galípolo said the Central Bank can only intervene if an illegal betting site is linked to financial crimes such as money laundering. 💰 The Bank’s executive secretary, Rogério Antônio Lucca, estimated between BRL20 billion and BRL30 billion per month will be spent on illegal betting in Brazil in 2025.

  • 🇬🇧 UK Gambling Commission warns of AI deepfakes in ’emerging’ money laundering risks. https://lnkd.in/eFG6z-UY In an update to its AML and terrorist financing risks guidance, the UK regulator flagged a number of money laundering and terrorist financing risks facing gambling operators. ❌ The risks ranged from AI deepfakes and crypto crash games to unlicensed suppliers and illicit mule accounts. 🖥️ The Commission stated that all operators must train staff in the assessment of customer documentation for AI-generated documents. 💳 Land-based operators have also been advised to run closed-loop payment processes.

  • 🧑⚖️ Dutch regulator raps Circus Gran Casino over role model violation. https://lnkd.in/eG-NemBE Kansspelautoriteit issued a warning to the operator after it breached rules on the use of “role models” in its marketing activities. 🏒 Circus Gran Casino used professional athletes from a Limburg ice hockey team to promote its local branch in Maastricht. 📺 KSA began enforcing a ban on the use of role models in advertising in June 2022. ⚖️ Responding to the charge, Circus Gran Casino said the rules on the use of role models was not “sufficiently” clear.

  • 🚨 AUSTRAC claim against Entain highlights criminal player activity. https://lnkd.in/emPS-C45 The operator group has been accused of not reporting criminal account holders across a number of brands in an ongoing case brought by the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC). ❌ AUSTRAC has accused the operator of “serious and systematic” non-compliance with AML and counter-terrorism financing laws. 💳 One account flagged in the report had a lifetime turnover of over $57.3m within the space of a couple of years, while another had refused to provide source of wealth information. 📣 Entain has acknowledged the allegations and said it would take some time to review AUSTRAC’s Statement of Claim.
