📢 Don’t forget to sign up for the first in our new webinar series on the Public Engagement in Data Research Initiative (PEDRI): 🗓️ Thursday 10 April | 💻 Online on Zoom | ⏰ 13.30 – 14.30 Fitness tracking, supermarket reward points, going to the doctor… every day we generate a massive amount of data. Data like this can be used in research that makes a positive difference to our lives, like finding cures for diseases or improving public services. Yet, how that data is gathered, how access to it is managed, and how it is used makes all the difference in building, and maintaining, public trust. Without public trust and involvement, data research can fail to reach its full potential. Hosted by HDR UK’s Community Engagement Lead Anna Woolman, this session will spotlight the PEDRI Good Practice Standards and how they’re helping to embed the public voice in the heart of #DataResearch. Anna will be in conversation with: - Shayda Kashef – Senior Public Engagement Manager, ADR UK (Administrative Data Research UK) - Jan Speechley – Public Partner, PEDRI - Dr Piotr Teodorowski – Health Services Researcher, University of Stirling 👉 Book your free spot now: https://hubs.li/Q03gpmpY0 #HealthData #DataScience #PublicEngagement

📢 We are thrilled that Wellcome Trust is partnering with the UK Government to establish a new £600m Health Data Research Service. This is an exciting development following the publication of the #SudlowReview in November. Professor Cathie Sudlow’s review — supported by HDR UK — sets out five key recommendations for overcoming the barriers that currently delay the safe and secure use of health data, to transform the national health data ecosystem and improve lives. One of the recommendations in the review involves establishing a National Health Data Service. This announcement marks a defining moment in harnessing the power of data for faster, more impactful health research. ➡️ Read more: https://hubs.li/Q03gkcwh0 #HealthData #DataScience Department of Health and Social Care

🌍 To drive truly impactful cardiovascular research, we need data that represents everyone. Our Whole Population Data theme is making high-quality, linked health datasets more accessible at a UK-wide scale. 🔗 We've partnered with NHS England to enable analysis on linked health datasets covering the entire population of England within NHS England’s Secure Data Environment. We have similar access schemes in place in Wales and Scotland. 💡 Why does this matter? Whole population data ensures scientists' findings reflect all demographic groups, leading to more reliable insights that can shape better health policy and patient care. Head to the 'News' section of our website to read more about whole population data research 👇 https://hubs.ly/Q03fXGSF0 #DataScience #CardiovascularResearch #PopulationHealth

More than 5,500 researchers and innovators gathered in Vienna for The Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Diseases Conference #ADPD2025 to share advances in dementia research. Among them were our colleagues and collaborators in the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative - Mya Bibra and Siegfried Wagner representing INSIGHT at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London; Professor Andrew Morris, Eóghan Forde and Neil Postlethwaite of Health Data Research UK (HDR UK); and Matthew Clement of Alzheimer's Disease (AD) Data Initiative. A satellite summit chaired by Niranjan Bose provided an opportunity to share progress on the AD Data Initiative Data Pilots, which are seeking to improve the “research readiness” of data access mechanisms to flagship NHS datasets for research related to Alzheimer’s disease internationally. As part of the Data Pilots, Moorfields has been leading further development of the AlzEye Dataset, using INSIGHT's infrastructure and data curation capability. AlzEye contains over six million routinely collected retinal images linked to thousands of NHS hospital records, including over 13,000 dementia cases. 👏 A new tool predicts frailty earlier, helping patients and potentially saving the NHS millions. Pioneering work like this shows the power of #HealthData in driving better care and outcomes for all.
Frailty costs the NHS £6 billion a year. We have funded a new tool that GPs can use to predict frailty - and it could save the NHS millions. The new tool helps GPs to predict older patients’ risks of living with frailty and intervene earlier, helping doctors prevent falls, reduce medications and limit hospital visits. Researchers estimate that in 2018 alone, these interventions saved the NHS nearly £7 million. 🗨️ Marian Knight MBE, Scientific Director for NIHR Infrastructure said “The eFI has already proven that it can improve patient outcomes and save the NHS millions of pounds. This evolution of the tool is extremely exciting, enabling people to receive personalised treatments from their GPs and maintain their independence for longer, bringing crucial cost savings to the health system.” Work on the new tool was funded by the NIHR ARC Yorkshire and Humber and NIHR ARC North Thames. Professor Andrew Clegg, who led the study, is funded by an NIHR Research Professorship award and the NIHR Leeds Biomedical Research Centre . 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eKTktEwy
