  • Check out this incredible artwork on display in the newly renovated carers’ room at the Rivington Unit, Royal Bolton Hospital. Created by talented volunteer Ian Peters from Bolton Carers Service, the bespoke piece symbolises the deep connection between carers and their essential role within the unit. GMMH Head of Operations, Bolton Division, Simon Johns, said: “Carers are the unsung heroes of mental health, providing the patience, understanding, and support that makes recovery possible. Without them, the whole system would fall down. With them, we can work together, each of us being a vital cog in the machine. This is ably captured in this wonderful piece of art.” Read more in the comments.

💙🎨 A beautiful tribute to carers… A striking new artwork created by Bolton Carers Service volunteer Ian Peters has been unveiled at The Rivington Unit, Royal Bolton Hospital — where Making Space has proudly delivered dedicated carer support for over a decade. Now displayed in the newly renovated carers’ room, Ian’s bespoke piece symbolises the power of collaboration between carers, NHS teams, Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH), and Making Space. Inspired by clockwork, the artwork reflects how every act of care — no matter how small — keeps everything moving. The unveiling event brought together Ian and his family, GMMH colleagues, senior hospital leaders, and our amazing Bolton Carers Service team for a celebration of creativity, compassion, and community. ✨ Read the full story here: https://ow.ly/2wwA50VpyNH #CarersMatter #BoltonCarersService #VolunteerImpact #GMMH #ArtWithMeaning #StrongerTogether #SocialCare

  • We had a fantastic morning welcoming Manchester boxing hero and mental health champion Ricky Hatton MBE to the opening of North View, our mental health inpatient hospital. Former world title holder Ricky toured the new unit and performed the honours at our brilliant new 150-bedroom unit and told how he was proud to be invited. He said: “I am delighted and honoured to be at North View for this opening. It has been well-documented what mental health means to me over the years and to be able to give a little bit back. “The main thing about mental health is people don’t speak about it and even if you do, it must be very daunting to go to hospital, but this doesn’t seem like a hospital, it’s more like a five star hotel. It’s fantastic. You’ve got a gym in there. Lovely bright colours, gardens where you can sit outside. If you’ve got a problem with mental health, this is the type of place you want to be to recover. It’s fantastic for the city of Manchester to have this on their doorstep. Hopefully more cities up and down the country will have facilities like this soon too.” Our Chair, Tony Warne, said: “This is a very proud moment as we welcome Ricky Hatton to officially open our award-winning North View inpatient mental health hospital – a facility that represents hope and healing for mental health here in Greater Manchester. North View is an important investment in Manchester’s mental health services. “Our ethos is community first which means treating people in their communities wherever possible. But to do that, we also need the very best inpatient facilities for those who need them.” Read more in the comments. #GMMHImprovingNorthMcr

  • Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust reposted this

It was great to see our mental health response vehicle service feature as a big case study in the national NHS Providers update. Danielle Lord, service manager, explained in detail how the new service is improving mental health crisis care across Greater Manchester by helping people avoid A&E. Across Greater Manchester, nearly 600 people have been supported by new mental health response vehicles – with 453 avoiding A&E (77%). The vehicles are run by North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS) alongside Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. For all ages, it involves an emergency medical technician from NWAS and a mental health practitioner from Pennine Care or Greater Manchester Mental Health jointly responding to 999 calls where the person is experiencing a mental health crisis. Some may also have a physical health need.  The patient can be treated at the scene, or signposted to an appropriate community-based service, instead of going to A&E which isn't the best place for most people.  Making sure they quickly receive the right care, in the right place, will benefit their recovery, ensure they have a positive experience and make best use of professionals' time.  An added bonus is that the vehicles are electric, in line with the national greener NHS programme to achieve net zero carbon.  We've made many improvements to mental health services over the last couple of years. We'll continue to work hard with our partners to transform services and ensure a happier and more hopeful life for everyone in our communities.
