Remembering the Holocaust with Janine Webber, BEM. Yesterday we hosted a holocaust remembrance lunch and learn with holocaust survivor, Janine Webber, BEM. The Holocaust Educational Trust (HET) discussed the impact of the Holocaust today and the important work they are doing with schools and teachers, training educators to teach our future generations about these important life changing events. Janine shared her deeply moving story, starting with her childhood in Lvov, Poland (now Ukraine). She showed us pictures of her family and recounted her experiences during the war, including her time in the ghetto and living with multiple families in hiding. Janine spoke about the loss of her family members and her eventual reunion with her aunt. After the war, they began a new life in France, and at 22, Janine moved to England, where she married her late husband and raised her twin sons. The event concluded with fireside chat with our Jewish Network co-chairs, Sarah Kingsley Fried and Natasha Englender who delved deeper into Janine's story and the reasons why she shares it, to ensure history is not lost that we should all learn to love each other no matter how different we all are. This year marks 80 years since the liberation of Auschwitz. The last survivors are gradually leaving us, and with them goes the living memory of the Holocaust. It was an honour to hear Janine's story, and we are extremely grateful to have been able to hear her account firsthand.

Through our Rooting for Change programme, we've teamed up with the RSPB to restore these vital ecosystems at Dove Stone in the Peak District. ✨🌙 Eid celebrations! Five members of our Muslim Network had the privilege of volunteering at Manchester Youth Zone (MYZ) to support its Eid celebration for 8-11-year-olds. MYZ provides a safe space where young people can discover their talents, raise aspirations, and enjoy healthier, happier lives. From an Islamic-themed quiz to Henna-inspired art, the young attendees had a chance to learn about Ramadan and Eid while also engaging in the centre’s incredible activities — music, sports, DIY workshops and more! Volunteering was a truly rewarding and eye-opening experience for our team: 💬 “The centre was a safe space for kids to express themselves, feel comfortable, and make friends with people of all backgrounds and communities. There could not have been a better example of social cohesion at that age.” — Naeem Badiuzzaman 💬 “Many of the children in the local area come from low socioeconomic backgrounds and might not otherwise have the opportunity to express their creativity outside of school. It was wonderful to see friendships forming throughout the afternoon.” — Amani Ismail Youth centres play a crucial role in the community, and it was inspiring to see the dedication of the staff in making a real impact. We’re proud to support this initiative. To conclude the Eid celebrations, we also hosted a special Eid lunch at our London office today, bringing colleagues together to share food, stories, and reflections on the significance of this time of year.
