Yesterday, for the first time, the UN's #InternationalDayofZeroWaste spotlighted one of the most urgent and complex waste streams: fashion and textiles. At Epoch, we’re proud to be part of the solution, using biorecycling for blended textile waste and unlocking circularity for even the most durable and high-performance materials. This isn’t just about one technology. It’s about scaling a new system. One where innovators, designers, brands, manufacturers, waste managers, and policymakers all work together to ensure that everything made is remade. If you’re interested in working with us to build a waste-free global textile ecosystem, get in touch! www.epochbiodesign.com Check out more here: https://lnkd.in/dPJnrpr4 UN Environment Programme #ZeroWasteDay #BeatWastePollution #SustainableFashion #Sustainability #Circularity #Biorecycling #TextileToTextile

As impressive as always - Jacob Nathan and the stellar Epoch Biodesign team adding a roster of incredible partners on the journey towards inventing a category. ⚡
We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve raised an oversubscribed $18.3M Series A round to scale our breakthrough enzymatic recycling technology! At Epoch, we leverage billions of years of evolution to transform plastic waste into valuable new materials. Plastic is key to enabling our modern lives. The world we know wouldn’t be the same without this cheap and high-performance class of materials. However, this has come at a major price. Driven by our insatiable demand for plastic, production has risen to 450M tonnes annually - a staggering 22,500x increase since the launch of the first commercial plastic in 1907. As production has increased, so too have our uses for plastic. 64% of clothing materials are now made using synthetic textiles. These are often blended materials, making them particularly difficult to handle. Existing recycling technologies have failed to keep pace with the scale and complexity of the waste that we generate. It’s time for a change. At Epoch, we're taking a different approach. Our enzymatic processes work with nature, not against it, breaking down complex plastics at the molecular level to enable true circularity. We operate our processes at near-ambient conditions enabling us to achieve higher yields for less energy input. We’re transforming not just waste, but also the environmental footprint and the economics of the polymer industry. With this funding led by Extantia, with participation from Inditex (Mundi Ventures), Lowercarbon Capital, Happiness Capital | Certified B Corp, Kibo Invest, Day One Ventures, KOMPAS VC and others, we’re building our first biorecycling facility, serving an even larger customer base and expanding our enzyme library to process ever more complex waste streams. Our goal is to make recycled plastic more economical than virgin materials—reshaping the environmental and economic future of the industry. We’re growing our team to bring this vision to life. If you're passionate about driving real change in materials recycling across fashion, automotive, and beyond, we’d love to hear from you. Check out the brilliant write-up from Natasha Lomas in TechCrunch: https://lnkd.in/e9x5tbmS Finally, we want to extend a huge thank you to our investors, partners, supporters and team who are helping us build a truly circular future! #FundingAnnouncement #SeriesA #Biotech #Plastics #TextileRecycling #AI Clay DumasClea Kolster, PhDEric HelfgottChris SaccaAmelia ArmourClaire SmilowAdam RothenbergNicholas ShekerdemianAntonin de FougerollesIan HogarthJamie RowlesYancey StricklerAlex GezeliusCarlos Gonzalez-CadenasHenrik WerdelinJude GomilaJean de FougerollesHussein KanjiDaniel RumennikChris Hitchenophelia C.Irving FainDavid RowanJason JacobsYin LuCody SimmsYoobin JungAlejandra MaortuaFernando Rey FigueirasSimon Blakey

ICYMI: Last week saw the EU take a massive step to address textile waste. This provisional agreement places legally binding targets on all textile producers, whether EU-based or selling via e-commerce, to fund the collection, sorting and recycling of their products through extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes, with a deadline of 30 months from when the directive takes effect. At Epoch, we believe that waste should never be the end of the story. Legislation like this has an important role to play as we work to scale up solutions for textile circularity. Continued collaboration between government and industry is essential. https://lnkd.in/eTG-9Z5i #CircularEconomy #TextileRecycling #TextiletoTextile #Biotech #Sustainability #EpochBiodesign

The last quarter was marked by major milestones, including the opening of the new Zara Man store on Hermosilla in Madrid, which is home to the brand’s first Zacaffè, and the arrival of Massimo Dutti in the US market. In parallel, we continued to execute our extraordinary 2024-2025 logistics expansion plan at a healthy pace, while furthering our commitment to developing more sustainable raw materials, framed by the Group’s sustainability strategy. Just this morning, we announced an investment in Epoch Biodesign, a startup that uses artificial intelligence to design enzymes that allow the recycling of mixed plastics and textiles. This alternative allows the transformation of textile waste into the equivalent of virgin materials, promoting textile-to- textile circularity. Thanks to the effort, commitment and enthusiasm of all our people, the company's performance continues to be very satisfactory. https://lnkd.in/dqzHnX4W
