“I think [employee ownership] is going to be one of the big ideas of the 21st century” Says David McWilliams on the latest episode of The David McWilliams Podcast co-hosted with John Davis. Featured on the episode was Alan Coleman, CEO of Ireland’s first EOT (and eoa member) Wolfgang Digital. The episode was all about how EO can transform businesses and empower workers. And, as David says, change capitalism itself. With a conversation that covered everything from colonialism to EO as a catalyst for building Ireland’s domestic economy, there was plenty of food for thought. Alan offered a great insight into Wolfgang’s transition – which was supported by our own International Ambassador, Graeme Nuttall OBE. He also championed EOTs as a vehicle for powerful, positive, and lasting change using eoa data to back it up. Here’s a few of our favourite soundbites: 📢 “Our big bet is that a business populated by people thinking like business owners will outperform a business populated by people thinking like employees” 📢 “There is pent up potential sitting in every workforce in every company in the world… if you can change the mindset of the people from thinking like an employee to thinking like a co-owner, I think you can unlock that pent-up potential and unlock growth for the business” 📢 “We may be living in democracies, but we’re still working in something that looks more like a dictatorship… if the profit gets threatened, everyone and everything is on the chopping block” Check out the full podcast for more: ➡️https://lnkd.in/eA2VPMcc #Business #Culture #Leadership #EmployeeOwnership

We had an amazing time with our Scottish members in Edinburgh yesterday. Hands down the best event we’ve ever hosted in Scotland. Taking place at Scottish Enterprise’s office, we were joined by a powerful cross-section of EO businesses. Especially those who’ve been EO for 4+ years. That’s because eoa membership is a treasure trove of benefits and resources for mature members. With so many brilliant businesses in attendance, engagement was through the roof. Attendees were open with sharing their experiences and ken to support one another. It’s also testament to the rapid growth and ongoing success of EO in Scotland. It was great to see members reacting so strongly with The EO Mindset. So many attendees were taking snaps of the slides. Good thing with got another course on the EO Mindset later this year 😉 Thanks to our co event host Co-operative Development Scotland as well as our speakers: Martina Hofner from Esteem Training Ltd , Simon Poole at Jerba Campervans Ltd., and Scott Wilson from Clansman Dynamics Ltd. We’ve got plenty more events coming up ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/eeBkf3Mj #Business #EmployeeOwnership #Culture

Welcome to the eoa family, Attraction Tickets Ltd! 🎉 Since 2002, they’ve sold over 15 million tickets. Flash forward 23 years, they’ve become the UK’s largest travel company to make the move to EO. And now there’s a very good chance you’ll be booking your next getaway through a 100% EOT. Speaking about the move, owner, founder, and CEO Oliver Brendon said: 📢 “Employee ownership is one of the most equitable forms of capitalism, whereby value is shared amongst those who work hard to create it. 📢 “This ownership structure will not lead to a softer commercial approach. 📢 “In fact, employees and management will be more focused than ever on business performance because they will benefit from our ongoing success. 📢 “This is an important milestone for the company I started 23 years ago, and we are all excited about future growth.” Attraction Tickets were advised on their transition by eoa Specialist Advisor, Fieldfisher. The EOT Board will be chaired by Juliet Thorburn BA (Hons), MBA from fellow eoa member, Scott Bader. Congratulations from the whole eoa team. We’re delighted to have you with us. #Business #Finance #EmployeeOwnership #Events
Today is a momentous day for our business, as we announce our transition to employee ownership via an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT), becoming the largest UK travel company in history to do so. The EOT will oversee management of the company for the long-term benefit of employees – our most vital stakeholders. In this form of ownership, value is shared amongst those who work so hard to create it, and as this completion is made today, each of our 128 employees will share in bonuses worth over £1m. Speaking on the announcement, CEO and Founder, Oliver Brendon, said: “This is an important milestone for the company I started 23 years ago – with one phone and a £10k loan – the only funding we have ever received. In 2024 we made sales of £200m across six source markets and we believe that employee ownership will enable the business to continue to grow and prosper organically. “We have a unique corporate culture, and I hope that this new ownership structure will preserve that, whilst ensuring employees and management will be more focused than ever on business performance as everyone benefits from success. “Above all, I sincerely hope that the legacy of this company is one of excellent service to our customers, enduring partnerships with our suppliers, and generating prosperity for all employees over the coming years and decades.” The Employee Ownership Trust board will be chaired by Juliet Thorburn BA (Hons), MBA Thorburn, Global HR Director at Scott Bader (itself an employee-owned business). Oliver Brendon and his management team will continue to manage the Attraction Tickets Ltd business. Thanks to eoa, J GADD ASSOCIATES LIMITED, Fieldfisher, Travel Trade Consultancy | B Corp™, ABTOT Limited and Travel & General Insurance Services Limited for the consultation, guidance and support throughout this process. #employeeowned #eoa #employeeownership #business #culture

What does it look like when social care is commissioned differently? Our member Be Caring is helping show the way. Catch them tonight on BBC One Panorama: Crisis in Care – Follow the Money. Be Caring’s neighbourhood-based approach values care workers, invests in people, and ensures continuity of care. All while paying care workers for their full time at work. The result? A model that prioritises quality, trust, and community wellbeing. No surprise this transformative approach comes from an employee owned business. This follows the release of the ‘People Powered Care’ white paper from Care England and supported by the eoa. The report lays out how EO succession can help retain employees and capacity in the adult social care sector. Against this backdrop, caring looks set to be the next sector major EO sector. #EmployeeOwnership #SocialCare #Caring
🗨️ “The ten year plan for health, will include elements of social care” - The Rt. Hon. Wes Streeting MP 📺 Be Caring on BBC One Panorama – This Monday at 8pm We’re proud to share that Be Caring features in Panorama: Fixing the NHS: What Will It Take? on BBC One, Monday at 8pm - https://lnkd.in/eRv_Ayh6 Be Caring features in Panorama, highlighting our approach to delivering community care while paying our care workers for their full time at work. You’ll see two of our brilliant Care Workers supporting a customer at home, alongside insight from Sharon Lowrie, Be Caring CEO 🗨️ “If we are serious about supporting people to have a good quality of life, we need to focus on prevention, we need to focus on supporting people to live happier longer lives at home.” Filmed in Sheffield, where Sheffield City Council have commissioned homecare differently, applying a neighbourhood approach which includes a long-term, transformational approach that enables providers to invest in their people, deliver reablement, and keep people well at home. Working with our partners we are already demonstrating what’s possible when care is commissioned differently. Our model values and recognises the incredible workforce of care workers and enables continuity and trust built through well-trained community care teams and is a sustainable alternative to time-and-task commissioning. 📢 We hope this contributes to national conversations and helps shape a future where social care is properly funded, people are supported to live well at home for longer, and the workforce is respected and retained.
