This year’s World Health Day theme is "Healthy beginnings, hopeful futures". It shines a spotlight on the importance of maternal and newborn health – with the World Health Organization’s hoping to: ✅ Raise Awareness: Highlight the importance of maternal and newborn health, emphasising the need to reduce preventable deaths and improve care quality. ✅ Advocate for Action: Encourage governments and health communities to intensify efforts in providing accessible and high-quality healthcare for mothers and infants. ✅ Share Information: Disseminate valuable resources to support healthy pregnancies, safe childbirth, and effective postnatal care. The campaign highlights the critical need for comprehensive healthcare systems that address not only obstetric complications but also mental health, noncommunicable diseases, and family planning. Our Healthy Child Suite is a comprehensive collection of online courses designed for healthcare professionals working with children and families from pregnancy through adolescence (ages 0-18). Each course in the suite has been developed collaboratively by leading UK institutions, including the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and the #NHS, this suite offers high-quality, evidence-based training to enhance child healthcare practices. Bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers here in the UK. It can affect both men and women and those over 60 are particularly at risk. But we’re seeing increasing numbers of people under the age of 50 diagnosed with bowel cancer. But the earlier bowel cancer is spotted, the more treatable it’s likely to be. In fact, in the UK more than 9 in 10 people survive bowel cancer when it is diagnosed at the earliest stage. However, this drops significantly when diagnosed at the latest stage. The Gastrointestinal module of R-ITI our world-class online radiology training course, teaches you the various techniques to effectively examine the bowel, and gives you the knowledge need to pick up any abnormalities. ⭕ TB remains a global health crisis. Even though it's preventable and curable, it’s once again the world’s deadliest infectious disease – causing ~1.5 million deaths annually. So, on this World Tuberculosis Day, we want to share information about TB that every healthcare professional should have at their fingertips: 💡 Caused by mycobacterium tuberculosis, TB primarily affects the lungs and spreads through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or spits. 💡 A person only needs to inhale a few bacteria to become infected. 💡 Though about a quarter of the global population carries the TB bacteria, most won’t develop active disease or become contagious. However, those with weakened immune systems—such as people living with HIV, malnutrition, or diabetes, or those who smoke—face a higher risk of falling ill. 💡 Most TB cases occurring in low- and middle-income countries. In fact, half of all cases are concentrated in just eight countries: Bangladesh, China, India, Indonesia, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, and South Africa. 💡 TB is also the leading cause of death for people with HIV and a significant driver of antimicrobial resistance.
