🗣️ The cruise industry: A driver of innovation and local business generator 🛳️ “The cruise sector is a catalyst for change in maritime transport,” said Alfredo Serrano Chacón, National Director of CLIA in Spain, at a roundtable co-organised by #CLIA and El Periódico and held at the newspaper’s headquarters in #Barcelona. The event brought together key voices from across Spain’s maritime and tourism ecosystem to explore how the cruise industry is driving progress through innovation, sustainability and strong collaboration with local businesses.   📈 With €6.45 billion contributed annually to the Spanish economy and 49,000 jobs supported, the cruise sector works closely with Spanish companies offering Made in Spain solutions. Many are based in Barcelona and export their expertise around the world.   🌱 Francisco Díaz Castro from Moeve explained how the cruise industry is leading the decarbonisation journey.   👨🏭👩✈️👷 Jordi Floreta from ADELTE Group underlined the need for more high-skilled professionals as innovation in port infrastructure accelerates.   Virginia Quintairos from Intercruises Shoreside and Port Services highlighted the importance of dialogue and planning in managing passenger flows, and pointed to the growing demand for immersive, authentic and responsible travel experiences. 🤝   As Alfredo Serrano also noted, “this is an industry that generates wealth and opportunity for Spain,” and one that continues to move forward with collaboration, technology and talent. 🙌   📰 Read the full article in El Periódico (in Spanish): https://lnkd.in/dn9jZGKP 📸 Maite Cruz #ResponsibleTourism #WeAreCruise

  • Great News! 🔌 ⚡ This marks a significant step forward in advancing sustainable solutions. 💡 With an Onshore Power Supply (OPS), cruise ships can switch off their engines and connect directly to power from the shore, reducing emissions by up to 98%, depending on the energy mix. As part of the EU’s Fit for 55 programme, all major European ports will be required to provide shoreside electricity by 2030. 🙌 #NetZero #WeAreCruise

We are connected, now with Shorepower too!   A memorable day in #Rotterdam! AIDAnova (AIDA Cruises) became the first cruise vessel to connect to shore power. Officially marked - including the inauguration of the new design connection vehicle - by Vice-Mayor Robert Simons and CEO of the Port of Rotterdam Boudewijn Siemons. This officially opened for shore power supply at the Holland America Quay in Rotterdam. The shore power installation allows cruise vessels to turn off their generators to be connected to shore power, generated by wind and solar. Cruise Port Shore Power, daughter company of Cruise Port Rotterdam, is exited to further connecting cruise vessels to shore power in 2025 and onwards! 📸 by Mirjam Lems #WeAreCruise #Sustainability #ShorePower #OPS #RotterdamMakeItHappen Cruise Europe CLIA in Europe CLIA | Cruise Lines International Association Seatrade Cruise Cruise Industry News

  • 🛳️ With Southampton being the busiest cruise port in Northern Europe, #CLIA, alongside Carnival UK (P&O Cruises & Cunard) hosted a delegation of local politicians onboard Queen Victoria last week. 🗣️ Attendees joined a roundtable with representatives from seven cruise lines, and heard about their operations locally, and the thousands of jobs that rely on a strong cruise presence in Southampton. 🟢 The delegation discussed the industry's pursuit of net zero and heard first-hand from the ship's Environmental Officer about their work to make the ship more efficient. 🔌 With Southampton being the first port in the UK to have #OnshorePowerSupply, there was a discussion about the need for there to be more than one berth in the port. ♻️ Guests then went below deck, visiting the engine control room, the ship’s recycling facilities, and the Bridge. Thank you to Cunard for hosting and your incredible hospitality. Thank you also to Satvir Kaur MP, Darren Paffey MP, Lorna Fielker and the other local representatives who joined us for the visit. • What a great initiative to give furniture a second life! ♻️ This recent donation of over 4,400 chairs, armchairs, and stools to DER HAFEN HILFT! e.V. is a perfect example—ensuring that these items are reused rather than discarded, benefiting people in need from Hamburg to Ukraine. The cruise industry is committed to sustainable solutions, creating a positive impact in the communities we visit and beyond. 👏 A great step towards a more circular economy!⤵️ #WeAreCruise

💙❤️💛💚 #AIDACruises #Nachhaltigkeit #SozialesEngagement #Sachspenden #DERHAFENHILFT #AIDAEvolution

📰To read: Malta announces shore power agreement with Carnival Corporation—a step that will see fully electrified cruise berths developed under the country’s shore-to-ship initiative. ⚡🔌 According to the Maltese government, the move will modernise the country's maritime infrastructure and allow cruise ships to plug into the local grid while in port—cutting emissions and reducing their carbon footprint. As reported by Cruise Industry News, Prime Minister Abela also highlighted the economic contribution of cruise tourism: around €88 million annually, with nearly €40 million directly spent by passengers during their visits. 💶 This is another reminder of the value of close cooperation between cruise lines, ports, and policymakers to accelerate shore power deployment. 📊 Key figures to keep in mind: 146 CLIA cruise ships are OPS-ready—over half the fleet. This grew 20% in a year and will reach 238 ships by 2028. 🎯OPS is crucial for meeting FuelEU Maritime goals and reducing costs under EU ETS. 🔗 Read the full article via Cruise Industry News:
