💦 Waterproof Concrete 🌊 Final Pour at Girvan Boating Pond! ⛵ This week marked the final pours for the Girvan Boating Pond renovation, a project that has been both exciting and rewarding to be part of. Over 300m³ of waterproof concrete, incorporating ISONANO 1500, was supplied to help bring this historic site back to life. ☀️ It’s been fantastic to be involved in a project that not only supports the local community but also carries such rich history. Learning about the heritage of the Girvan Boating Pond along the way has made it even more special. With the pond set to reopen in summer 2025, I’m looking forward to seeing it return as a key part of Girvan’s waterfront. A huge thanks to everyone involved in making this happen! ❗As this fine weather continues, we'd would like to remind everyone that quarries are not suitable places for swimming, no matter how tempting they might look ⛔💧🏊🏼♂️ Please do not trespass in quarries. Quarry water is stone cold and can kill. #StaySafe this coming #BankHoliday weekend and keep out of quarries⛔👍 📲Please share this message, with your friends, families and colleagues. #BeWaterAware #Zero4Life
STAY SAFE 2025 - #Easter Holidays - Public Safety at Active, Non-Active and Disused #Quarry Sites As we approach the Easter break and school holidays, MPA is requesting members and other quarry operators to be extra vigilant, ensuring public safety risk assessments have been reviewed and any site-specific, mitigation measures such as fencing and warning signs are in place. This is particularly important for quarries with lakes or water filled voids, the majority of deaths involving members of the public in quarries are water related. The current warm weather may tempt some people to visit these types of sites. Should they enter the water, they will be exposing themselves to the risk of ‘cold water shock’ or other hazards such as deep water, sudden changes in depth, concealed obstacles beneath the surface and unstable or steep sides. 62% of all accidental drownings in the UK occur at inland water sites, over 40% of accidental drownings involve people who did not expect to enter the water. Recent research by Swim England has revealed that 70% of children are taken out of swimming lessons before they can swim competently putting them at risk in the water. Basic life skills such as treading water and floating can be life-saving when people find themselves suddenly in trouble in water. MPA is working with other agencies as part of a generic #RespectTheWater campaign (https://lnkd.in/eDVPbZhy) to raise public awareness of what they should do should they fall into water or see others in trouble. Please share these messages with employees and ideally, their families: - Explain what one should do if you see someone in trouble in the water, do not enter the water to try and save them, resist this instinct and – CALL, TELL, THROW. - Recommend what one can do if you are in trouble in the water ‘FLOAT TO LIVE’. The resources produced by the RNLI explain how floating on your back can dramatically improve your chances of survival should you find yourself in trouble in open water whether at the coast or inland water such as a quarry lake. Sharing this knowledge with your colleagues and their families will help save lives. Download RNLI resources at: https://lnkd.in/eRhQMNEH MPA has produced a number of resources that can be used to support community engagement programmes with both schools and others. Guidelines on managing public safety on quarry sites are also available at: https://lnkd.in/dQUCrwA #FloatToLive #DrowningPrevention #LoveSwimming
