Our scientists have created an algorithm that could help pave the way for more personalised cancer treatments ‼ A team of scientists at University of Cambridge have developed PRRDetect, an algorithm that acts like a ‘metal detector’ to find vulnerable tumours. It’s able to pinpoint patterns of mutation in cancer cells and could help identify the patients that might benefit most from immunotherapy. Find out how 👇

Dr Masahiro Ono at Imperial College London is working to develop ways to activate immune cells more effectively in the lab, so that we can make immunotherapy treatments more successful for people with melanoma. Immunotherapies are a powerful tool in cancer treatment, helping the immune system recognise and attack cancer cells. However, these therapies don’t currently work for everyone. By studying how immune cells interact with melanoma cancer cells, this research could be key in offering better outcomes in the future. We're proud to fund this important work and have just renewed our partnership with Beiersdorf for a further two years, who will also be helping to fund Dr Ono's pioneering immunotherapy research. For more than 12 years, Cancer Research UK and Beiersdorf have worked together, raising over £8 million to fund life-saving skin cancer research. This latest funding is another important step in cancer treatments. Thank you, Beiersdorf, for your continued and impactful support. Together we are beating cancer.

Vaccinations have been a game changer in the medical world and human health. They’ve helped protect us from measles and mumps, polio, and most recently COVID-19. Vaccines even eradicated smallpox, one of the deadliest diseases in human history. Can they do something similar for cancer? In the first two episodes of Series Three of our podcast, #ThatCancerConversation, our host Sophie Wedekind explores this fascinating area of research with specialists in the field 👇 #CancerVaccines #Vaccines #CancerTreatment #DrugDevelopment #Podcast #Health

We're delighted that the Tobacco and Vapes Bill has passed its Third Reading in Parliament. This historic legislation, which will progressively raise the age of sale for tobacco, will now start its journey through the House of Lords and we urge peers to back the Bill. Nothing would have a bigger impact on reducing the number of preventable deaths caused by cancer than by ending smoking. But, if we are to realise the ambition for a #SmokefreeUK, we also want to see Scotland and Wales join Northern Ireland in introducing Legislative Consent Motions in support of the Bill to help ensure that young people across the whole of the UK are protected from the harms of smoking in the future. We’re thrilled to announce an 18-month research project, commissioned to a team from the University of Cambridge and UCL, led by Professor Nora Pashayan. The team will be delving into the evidence to better understand which types of cancer do or don't progress. By deepening our understanding of cancer progression, this work will support more informed discussions with policymakers, academics and clinicians, improving early diagnosis while minimising overdiagnosis. A role within the Cambridge team is available (deadline 24 March) - please share with your connections: bit.ly/4haPsZr Together we can make a real difference to the future of cancer diagnosis and treatment. #CancerResearch #ResearchJobs #ResearchCareers #InnovationInHealth
