BMJ Impact Analytics
Healthcare Analytics Software
Research that improves patients’ lives matters deeply to the funders, institutions and researchers who dedicate their resources to medical and health research. But evaluating the impact of this research on policy and guidelines is traditionally measured by standard scholarly metrics in the absence of more targeted analysis that relates explicitly to health improvement. BMJ and the pioneering technology start-up, Overton, set out to address this challenge by collaborating to develop BMJ Impact Analytics, the first research impact tool fcused on health and social care. It was launched in January 2023 and, by September of the same year, had already secured the prestigious Gold Award for Innovation in Publishing 2023 from the Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishers (ALPSP). "We chose to partner with BMJ because of their expertise and reach in the medical research community." Euan Adie, Founder, Overton

It was a pleasure for BMJ Group's Publishing team to welcome over 50 of our journal editors from around the world for the annual Editors Seminar at BMA House this week. This is one of the highlights of the year, allowing us to spend quality time with the people who work so hard to ensure their journals publish content that impacts on practice and patient care, and ultimately contributes to making a healthier world. Over two days of talks, seminars and workshops we covered some of the most pressing themes affecting medical journals today, including how to work with generative AI, challenges in research integrity, the importance of diversifying editorial boards, and the role of journals in an age of mis- and disinformation - a fascinating discussion with Kamran Abbasi, Nick Brown and Baroness Hilary Cass, author of the Cass Report. Our final keynote on Mainstreaming Ethics in Medical Publishing was delivered by Professor Siobhán O'Sullivan, Director of the Royal Irish Academy and incoming chair of BMJ's Ethics Committee. There was also time for a tour of historic BMA House, home to the British Medical Association since 1925. Thank you to all the editors who made the time to attend and participate, and to numerous colleagues from around BMJ Group who helped with organisation and logistics, contributed to the programme, presented, led workshops and ensured the success of the event. Special thanks to Helen Macdonald and Rachel Vangucci without whom none of this would have happened. We're already looking forward to the next one! We are delighted to work with Ministry of Health (Singapore) on delivering this hugely important conference in August. The International Forum has often been referred to as an energy injection - an opportunity for attendees to be reminded about why they do the work they do and to meet others facing similar challenges. These conversations are important for many reasons - finding solutions that work, learning from improvement projects in other settings, collaborating for spreading improvement beyond individual organisations, reigniting energy and drive, and much more. Alongside IHI, we look forward to welcoming health and care professionals from Singapore and internationally so that we keep on moving towards sustainable quality together. 🌏 Join us: https://bit.ly/4iPOy6w
