  • 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 - 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗗𝗲𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗝𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮: Hi everyone! My name is Jomana, and I am a second-year student at Leeds Beckett University studying International Tourism Management with Marketing. Alongside my studies, I work as a Beckett Careers Assistant, where my role primarily involves supporting students in navigating their career journeys by offering guidance on skill development, job searching, and making informed career decisions. Upon reflecting on my personal career goals, I know that I wish to enter an industry that is people-focused, as this aligns with my values of wanting to make a positive impact on people's lives. Identifying my career aim allowed me to reflect on my strengths, such as communication, adaptability, and collaboration. With these strengths in mind, I decided to plan, prepare, and host two workshops on ‘Transferable Skills, Limitless Opportunities.’ The goal was to help students understand that their degree is not just a qualification but a set of transferable skills that can open doors across various industries. My workshops were well-received, with students engaging actively and discovering hidden strengths. They learned how to:  • Effectively utilise their module handbooks to identify key skills  • Showcase transferable skills on their CVs  • Present these skills in interviews The feedback I received was really positive, with many students sharing that they found the session practical and valuable in helping them realise how their skills could be applied in different industries. Reflecting on the experience, one of the key activities I included was a collaborative exercise, which was highly effective. Students had the chance to engage with each other, share their experiences, and learn from one another. Seeing them work together was rewarding, and I would love to add even more collaborative activities in future workshops to strengthen interactive aspects. This experience enabled me to build upon my existing strengths, and it also helped me develop new skills, such as:  • Stronger ability to adapt content and activities to suit diverse audiences  • Greater confidence in managing group dynamics during workshops  • Enhanced ability to think on my feet and respond effectively to student queries Overall, this experience has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to continue learning and developing my skills alongside Beckett Careers as I work toward my career goals. If you're looking to enhance your career development or explore how your transferable skills can open up new opportunities, feel free to reach out to Careers@leedsbeckett.ac.uk - Jomana Aref

  • 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 - 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗷𝗮: As a final year Business and Management student who has completed numerous applications for graduate roles as well as undertaking a placement in my second year, I know the importance of understanding employers and interview preparation in order to successfully secure a role. Over the past few weeks, as a Student Careers Assistant, I have had the amazing opportunity to develop, prepare, and present my own series of workshops for the careers team at Leeds Beckett University.   The aims of these workshops were centred around skill development and research, with a strong emphasis on becoming confident in your ability to articulate and gather your answers for upcoming interviews, based on employer research. To prepare for these workshops I reflected upon my own experiences, both positive and negative, and integrated my top tips and research practices. I also used a number of external sources that strengthened my initial ideas, which supported to composition of the entire workshop. With the support of Hannah Beever and our check in meetings, I was able to bring everything together and create something that educated and supported other students.   The experience of delivering both the in-person and online workshop helped me grow my confidence with presenting and public speaking, as well as understanding how to keep an audience engaged, which I know will be crucial in future job roles. My workshops reflection element allowed me to get feedback from the students about their confidence levels before and after the workshop, and everyone who participated reported feeling more confident. Despite the fact that my work as a SCA has been intriguing and developing so far, this project has been the most exciting one yet. I was able to develop my own skills of time management and organisation, as well as support others on their application journey, making it a very rewarding experience. 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘀𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼-𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀@𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁𝘁.𝗮𝗰.𝘂𝗸 ! I look forward to the remaining time I have in this role and cannot wait to continue learning, and supporting other students. Thank you to the Careers team for giving me the opportunity to use my initiative on such a project. - Nanija B.
