Textile Manufacturing

Quality in textiles since 1783

About us

Hainsworth has been responsible for weaving the look of iconic England ever since the company was established in 1783. Many of the famous images that have been used across the world to celebrate Great Britain are made unforgettable through the use of Hainsworth cloth including the Striking Scarlet of the Royal Guards, the ceremonial uniforms worn by the Royal Family during state occasions and the military uniforms worn during the Charge of the Light Brigade. Our ceremonial cloth has been at the heart of national pride, the world over; our protective fabrics safeguard emergency services in the Middle East, Asia, Europe and North America; our interior fabrics furnish Royal palaces and homes throughout Europe and the Middle East; our snooker and pool cloth is undeniably the best in the world; and our award-winning innovation centre is an internationally recognised authority in the design and development of woven textiles. With a fully integrated, vertical textile mill, Hainsworth carries out every process from the selection of raw wool to finished cloth in-house. Our expertise is in selecting the appropriate ingredients to use in our fully equipped mill, which includes our own spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing, printing and fabric conversion machinery. This, combined with our UKAS accredited testing laboratory, gives Hainsworth its unique competitive edge.

  • An investment in quality... In recent months we have had two additions to the Hainsworth Team, Alvaro Capilla joins as a Quality Systems Engineer and Charlotte Beever is our new Laboratory and Product Compliance Manager. Both will contribute to the quality of our products, the audits we go through, and our drive to continually improve everything we do. Before joining us, Alvaro was a Quality Engineer and a Certified Lead Auditor for a leading Yorkshire manufacturing business. In his first few months, he has been impressed with how passionate our team are about continuous improvement. Charlotte is an experienced textile testing laboratory manager with vast experience in gaining and maintaining UKAS accreditations. Her first impression of the mill is how friendly and welcoming everyone has been. Quality is a core value at AW Hainsworth, our reputation is built on it and our future depends on it. We are very pleased to have both Alvaro and Charlotte at the mill, and they are already having a positive impact in their departments.

  • We are once again partnering with Barnardo's for our annual Easter Egg Appeal, to collect eggs for children in our area who might not receive one otherwise. Last year we collected over 800 chocolate eggs, and we would like to get close to that figure again this year We do this through the generosity of our employees, suppliers, and customers, who have been dropping eggs off at the mill or donating money so we can purchase them ourselves. It's a small act of kindness that will put a smile on a child's face. If you want to donate to our 2025 appeal, please get in touch.

  • Now that we've hosted our second and final cohort from the TCoE - Textile Centre of Excellence Skills Bootcamp, we wanted to share some of the things the students learnt about. Our topic to cover was Quality Management Systems, Testing and Standards. It might not seem like the most exciting topic to cover, but it is something we are passionate about. It is crucial to our business, and we hope we made it enjoyable. The students started with an introduction presentation from Amanda McLaren and Nigel Birch, which covered who we are, what we do, and how we set up and maintain our quality management systems. The students then split into three groups and rotated around: 1️⃣ Colour management - speaking to our Wet Process Manager Stuart Brown about how we measure colour. They had a chance to try out a spectrophotometer which formulates and controls colours. 2️⃣ The importance of standards in life and death scenarios - Jack Rowan spoke about our protective fabrics and the work that goes into testing and standards for fabrics worn by firefighters across the world. 3️⃣ Standards for aviation - Stuart Allen and Angela Aires Augusto from our Replin brand spoke about the change in standards for aviation following significant incidents, and the different testing and processes required for this sector. To finish, the students headed to our laboratory with Charlotte Beever, to learn more about testing, standards and colour management. Both cohorts were engaged, got involved, and asked some interesting questions. Thank you for visiting the mill!

  • Celebrating International Women’s Day at Burberry We were honoured to attend the Royal Warrant Holders Association’s annual International Women’s Day event at Burberry’s newly reopened London headquarters. The highlight of the event was an inspiring talk by Carly Eck, Burberry’s Brand Curator, who shared the fascinating history of the brand and its deep connection with inspiring women - from explorers and changemakers to visionaries and industry leaders. A huge thank you to The Royal Warrant Holders Association and Burberry for hosting a great event. #InternationalWomensDay #Burberry #RoyalWarrantHolders
