Supporting Aldgate businesses, residents, workers and everyone in-between.

About us

As Aldgate’s dedicated Business Improvement District (BID), we work in collaboration with both The City of London and Tower Hamlets to make our slice of East London more welcoming, appealing, protected and stronger for all. Since forming in April 2020, the BID has attracted new visitors with a year-round events programme, featuring Easter egg hunts, craft workshops, and winter and summer festivals; contributed to the launch of both the In the City app and City Gift Card to encourage local spending; supported local community initiatives and charities, including Aldgate’s local food bank; and improved the public realm through several greening and art projects. Enhancing Safety in the City’s Night-Time Economy As part of the Our Safer City initiative, taxi marshals are stationed at Liverpool Street every Thursday, Friday and Saturday with extended hours from 9pm to 1am. Jointly funded by the Eastern City BID and Aldgate Connect BID, their presence plays a key role in supporting the safe and efficient movement of people at night. To date, the marshals have facilitated over 23,000 journeys and supported more than 41,000 individuals. They play a vital role in safeguarding vulnerable people, preventing the use of unlicensed minicabs and discouraging anti-social behaviour. This work is a vital part of our commitment to improving safety and enhancing the overall experience of the City’s night-time economy for workers, residents and visitors alike. • In our 2024 Perception Analysis Survey we asked our Business Community to share what they wanted and needed from us, their Business Improvement District. Their feedback helped to shape our 2025-2030 Business Plan, which focuses on four key strategic themes. We hope to share with you all more information on these themes and how we hope to enact them, starting with our goal to cultivate an appealing area for all.

  • We're delighted to be supporting the Taxi Marshalling service, delivered by Our Safer City.
