Omweso is a traditional Ugandan board game belonging to the mancala family, known for its strategic depth. Historically associated with the Buganda Kingdom, it was played by chiefs, elders, and royalty as a test of intelligence and military strategy. The game features a wooden board with 32 pits (16 per side) and 64 seeds, requiring players to employ quick thinking and forward planning to capture their opponent's seeds. Today, Omweso remains popular in Uganda, with efforts underway to introduce it to younger generations and preserve this cultural heritage. It is also recognized in national and international mancala tournaments.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women worldwide. But as we honor progress, we must also acknowledge the challenges young girls face on their journey to womanhood. Many girls struggle with limited access to education, early marriages, gender-based violence, economic hardship, and menstrual hygiene challenges. Without access to sanitary products and proper education, many girls miss school, suffer in silence, and face stigma—holding them back from reaching their full potential. This is a call to action!
