Did you know? Historically, car crash tests used dummies based on the average male body – putting women at greater risk of injury or death in accidents. The same kind of gender data gap exists in energy policymaking, where women’s experiences often go uncounted, leading to solutions that don’t fully address their needs. 🔍 Learn about the key areas where gender data is essential to improving energy policies and ensuring they work for everyone: https://lnkd.in/eMgNR-uJ

10.4 million women and girls in #Myanmar are now facing a crisis within a crisis. The earthquake has worsened an already dire situation—from collapsing healthcare to rising risks of violence. See how women and girls are being distinctly impacted: https://lnkd.in/ey4jtn7k

With health centres damaged or destroyed, there are fewer places to access contraception, safe childbirth, or care for survivors of violence. Restoring access to healthcare is a top priority. https://lnkd.in/ecNJa4yF #MyanmarGenderFlashUpdate #WomenInEmergencies

Before the earthquake, more than a third of Myanmar’s people—including 10.4 million women and girls—needed urgent humanitarian aid. With homes destroyed and power and communications disrupted, women and girls face heightened risks of gender-based violence. As people seek safety in overcrowded or exposed shelters—including open spaces without protection—the lack of privacy and security further increases these risks. For survivors of sexual violence, the first interaction with law enforcement can define their entire path to recovery. In Thailand, Tourist Police are often first responders for international visitors and migrant communities. Last February, police officers from across the country joined a specialized training in Bangkok to strengthen their capacity to respond with empathy, dignity and respect. The training, co-organized by the British Embassy in Bangkok and UN Women, focused on trauma-informed, survivor-centred approaches. It was supported by the EU-funded PROTECT project and Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). By helping officers recognize and challenge harmful biases, the training aimed to ensure that survivors of all backgrounds—particularly migrant women—receive the support they need. Hear from the participants and trainers as they reflect on what it means to truly support survivors: https://lnkd.in/gvcDRsfh UK in Thailand | UN Women | European Union | Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
