A quick note on getting to the Event: https://lnkd.in/gEsHuYBB In short: - Get to Rajapark Building on Asok Montri road, spot UOB bank on the front. - Walk to the side of the building behind UOB, there'll be entrance. - You'll see a row of elevators, take the 2 right ones to Floor 15th! - Find Chakrit and say Hi! :) Give me a call at +66-89-923-9912 if you couldn't find it.

    # FAQ for the Lead Engineer Meetup ### Registration As of the time of this writing, there are over 70 registered attendees! I’ll be honest here: That is wild! I was hoping to get 15-20 people tops when I started the initial post. Unfortunately gathering a large crowd in our office is not ideal so, for now, the registration will be limited to 80 people. But of course we are not going to employ a bouncer to keep anybody out, so if you really feel like you wanted to join the first one, you are more than welcome! ### Leadership Woes On another topic, I have added one little question to gauge everyone’s most anxious topics and of the 70-80 people who have answered we have: 20 - Stakeholder Management ████████████████████ 16 - Relationship with Teammates ████████████████ 15 - Engagement / Retention ███████████████ 13 - Budgets █████████████ 12 - Hiring / Recruitment ████████████ 11 - Mentorship ████████████ 10 - Work-Life Balance ███████████ 10 - Resource Allocation ███████████  7 - Hitting Deadlines  4 - Other Keep in mind that it is a multiple-choice answer. This will be an interesting meetup! ### What’s the Agenda? Again, I did not anticipate more than a small group of people would register, so there were really no need for any agenda in the beginning: it would have been a small fireside chat. However, now that we have almost 80 people registered, let me put it down proper so everyone know what’s going on: 15.00 - 16.00: Team will be there to setup, pre-event chat. 16.00 - 16.30: Registration starts + Questions and Topics submission and voting. 16.30 - 16.45: Event Introduction by Chakrit 16.45 - 18.00: Panel Talk & Audience Topics Discussion 18.00 - ##.##: Drinks/Networking at Kenshin Izakaya If the conversation is longer than time allows, Kenshin Izakaya Asoke is only a 2 minutes walk from the building. We can continue our conversation over some beers there. ### What’s the language? It looks like we do have a crowd of multiple nationalities joining so the primary language is best to be in English to include everyone. Some Thai is unlikely to be avoidable, however, as we would rather allow the majorly Thai audience members to be able to explain their thinking clearly, if needed. --- As always, if you have an interesting idea or suggestion, please share! You can message me here on LI or find me on Telegram at https://t.me/chakritw or email at chakrit@prodigy9.co .

    # Lead Engineer Meetup Posting proper LI event, but would love if you could register on luma also: https://lu.ma/0gtp0t77 . Thanks! Yesterday post was more like a quick thought dump. I'd like to put down a bit more structure here. I've thought a fair bit about these and with the Thai culture of shyness and เกรงใจ-ism not being very conducive to running communities and for this to be successful I'd like to try to make it more of a get-togethers and experience-sharing session rather than a listening-in thing. As always, let me know your thoughts/opinions/comments. If you have a better idea for the format, please share as well. Here's the first two topics I'd like to bring to the table: [[ Hiring / Recruitment ]] How to find candidates quickly, where to find them, what's a good interview process (I know there are multiple schools of thought here), what's your best interview question etc. [[ The "Leadership" career path ]] How to become one? If a junior wants to become a lead, how do we guide them? What's the best advice for the "accidental" leaders? The difference between CTO and Managers. etc. As always, let me know if you have other topics you'd like to bring up and I'll try to work that in as best I can.

(purely human written, no AI were consulted) Leadership is hard. But why is nobody talking about it? Is it such a rare skill that is accessible only by the very elites of our industry? There are so many technical meetups, presentations, showcases, events being organized, but rarely do anyone wants to discuss the big elephant in the room. I think we need more talk about “Leadership”. Good leads are so hard to find! And yet, none of the companies or startups I have been talking to have any idea on how or even why we needed to train one. Or even worse, dare I say, the most dreaded word for all Engineers: “Management”! Oh? You think managers are evil? Now it is your turn to become one. Your boss put so much trust in you! Perhaps, too much. Don’t fuck it up. Admit it, your team or company needed a good leader/manager. And you are so very afraid you may not be qualified enough to become one. After all, you have witnessed a good leadership before in your career. The experience left a lasting impression on you. It made you optimistic. It gave you back the thrill of seeing your first line of code run! But it also gave you a very very high standards for leaders, managers, and bosses. Perhaps, much too high. Leading is a scary job. And no one will admit it, less they appear weak or incompetent to their team. Hello Imposter Syndrome. With great power comes great responsibility. Except the responsibility seems so insurmountable. But why though? There is no fundamental reasons why leaders can’t talk, discuss, plan, learn together. In fact, there are so many more books, blog posts, articles written on leadership than there are for technical topics. Why can’t we get together and share, like the open source code we are pulling each and every day? Why can’t we come together and discuss, program, test and find out just like we do with code? Why can’t we have communities of leaders? So this is an invitation to all Engineering Leaders, Engineering managers, CTOs, Head of Engineering, Directors of Engineering, VPoE. Let’s all stop being so afraid. Let’s all come down from the Ivory Tower we’ve been pushed on. Let’s all agree that Imposter Syndrome is realer than real. And let’s come and share, discuss, talk about leaderships. Let’s make this open, like open source. Let’s create a better environment for every other Engineers that are fortunate enough not to have to carry this burden. Let’s figure all of this out together. Let’s stop being so lonely. Let’s stop being afraid to let your team down. Let’s meet! https://lu.ma/0gtp0t77 (if you saw this on FB, post was longer but LI has shorter limits so I had to cut some words out, sorry!)
