We are welcoming Hiromi Kusano to the APA Steering Committe! Hiromi joins the SC as the new East Asia focal point. As the Senior Advocacy Officer at Japanese Organization for International Cooperation in Family Planning (@joicfp ), Hiromi brings a wealth of expertise gained through working as a member of multiple CSO alliances that partner with ministries of the Government of Japan, including Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare, that determine the government's global health policy and official development aid policy. Over 80 activists joined our "Mobilizing Cross-constituency Advocacy to Advance Sexual Rights in Asia and Pacific" joint session on 28 February. Organized with IPPF ESEAOR and Asia Feminist LBQ Network at the ILGA Asia conference in Kathmandu, participants from the Women’s rights , LGBTQ , Intersex, and SRHR movements came together and discussed advacing a common agenda to advance #bodilyautonomy in Asia. 📢This Sex Workers’ Rights Day, we highlight the Asia Pacific Network of Sex Workers (APNSW), an organizational member of APA since 2019. At the Beijing +30 Review side event, ‘Women’s Rights at Risk: Reflections of the Left Behind’, APNSW emphasized the intersectionality of women’s healthcare and the urgent need to remove stigma and discrimination preventing sex workers from accessing vital health services, including #SRH. Sex workers’ rights are human rights. The fight for gender equality must include sex workers, as their struggles are deeply connected with those of women and gender-diverse people—pushing back against the same patriarchal oppression. 🔦APA MEMBER SPOTLIGHT🌟 APA Member WOREC was at the Regional Review of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM). At the GCM, they contributed their feminist analysis and Feminist Participatory Action Research (FPAR) conducted by migrant women. At the Multi-stakeholder consultation session on February 4, WOREC's ED Sunita Mainali addressed global shifts of policies that aggravated the status of migrants and called for a "meaningful, sustainable reintegration" with an "intersectional approach that addresses caste, gender, class, denial of SRHR services, indigeneity, and ethnic-based discrimination" in a civil society statement. WOREC also spoke as a panelist alongside APA CO at a side event organized by UNFPA Asia Pacific on the sexual and reproductive health of migrants in the Ageing Asia-Pacific region. 🚨The 90-day freeze on USAID programs and the Trump administration’s broader efforts to dismantle the U.S. foreign aid agency is anticipated to cause severe setbacks in HIV and TB programs across Southeast Asia, putting millions of lives at risk. USAID has its operations in #Cambodia, #Laos, #Myanmar, the #Philippines, #Thailand and #Vietnam.
