Last week, our Embassy in Ljubljana, together with IPoP – Institute for Spatial Policies and the Ministrstvo za okolje, podnebje in energijo / Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy organized an inspiring conference 'Fast Forward towards Sustainable and Friendly Mobility', bringing together experts from #Slovenia and the #Netherlands to exchange knowledge and ideas on #sustainable mobility and the future of public transport. A special thanks to our incredible speakers, panelists for their invaluable insights and participants for engaging discussions! A big compliment to Matej Praprotnik for his outstanding hosting and moderation of the conference! 🔄 Johan O. KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has officially launched daily flights between Ljubljana and Schiphol Amsterdam Airport - AMS 🌍 This new route enhances Slovenia’s global connectivity, offering seamless access to 160+ destinations via Schiphol including direct flights to North America. 💡 Why it matters? ✅ More travel options for Slovenians, Dutch and international visitors ✅ Boost to business ties between 🇸🇮& 🇳🇱 ✅ Stronger tourism and student exchanges 🔹 During the inauguration ceremony Johan O. Verboom, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Slovenia highlighted: "This strengthens trade, tourism, and student exchanges— there were 650,000+ overnight stays of #Dutch tourists in #Slovenia last year and the number of visitors is growing!" 🔹 Janez Krašnja, M. Sc. Fraport airport Slovenia "This isn't just about Ljubljana-Amsterdam. It expands Slovenia’s connectivity worldwide." He estimates that KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will carry more than 40,000 passengers on this route this year and expects that passenger demand will be strong enough for KLM to extend flights into the winter season. 🔹 Bas Hooft 't (Air France-KLM): “Ljubljana was the missing jewel in our network. This week we had the pleasure of hosting our colleague Ms Else Riep, a senior jurist at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Hague. Together with Mr Marko Rakovec, Ph.D., DG for International Law and European Affairs of the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, and Mr Jan Nečimer from the Slovenian Ministry of Justice, she participated in a panel discussing the process of creation and the importance of the Ljubljana – The Hague Convention in the fight against impunity for international crimes. We would like to thank the Globallis student association for organizing the lecture and the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Social Sciences for hosting us. Working closely with the Photography department at Academy of Fine Arts and Design, University of Ljubljana, students are creating new works and engaging with the local community. Netherlands-Slovenian collaboration in water management Following the catastrophic floods that hit Slovenia in 2023, there was an intensive exchange of knowledge between the #Netherlands and #Slovenia in the field of flood prevention and recovery. Ambassador Johan O. Verboom Verboom and Defence Attaché Peter van Stee made an acquaintance visit to Slovenia’s new Minister of Defence, Borut Sajovic.
