🌍 The #SynGRID consortium is meeting today at Impact Hub Athens in Greece, hosted by ICCS - NTUA to align on the next phase of activities. Main discussions are focused on three upcoming project reports 📄, coordination of contributions, and identifying synergies with ongoing initiatives and funding programmes, particularly in the context of smart specialization and regional strategies. Preparations are also underway for the Summer school in Slovenia, joint workshops, networking events and paper writing 📝. Partners from Croatia, Greece, and Slovenia, IRI UL - Institute for Innovation and Development of University of Ljubljana, FER - Department of Energy and Power Systems, Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology Osijek, and Petrol Group, are actively involved, with strong collaboration around capacity building 🧠 and engagement across widening countries 🤝. #SynGRID #HorizonEurope #EnergyTransition #SmartGrids #Innovation #ResearchCollaboration #WideningCountries

🌿 Advancing Circular and Renewable Solutions in Agriculture ECOLOOP project consortium gathered in Slovenia for its Third General Meeting, hosted by Kmetijski inštitut Slovenije (KIS) and IRI UL - Institute for Innovation and Development of University of Ljubljana. 🗓️ Day 1 kicked off at KIS headquarters in Ljubljana with updates on general management, dissemination, and technical progress in WPs 3 and 4, which focus on IT and technology innovations for sustainable energy and agricultural circularity. In the afternoon, participants visited the Infrastructure Centre Jablje, where a microbiogas power plant was demonstrated. The plant converts slurry and agricultural waste into heat and electricity – and will soon also produce biomethane to fuel farm machinery. A powerful example of green innovation in action! 🌱⚡ 🚐 The day wrapped up with a scenic stop at Lake Bled, before returning to Ljubljana. 🗓️ Day 2 continued at the University of Ljubljana, where IRI UL hosted discussions on economic and social support (WP led by IRI UL) and detailed updates from pilot sites across Europe. 🌍 Can community energy initiatives truly tackle energy poverty? That’s the question driving the SocialNRG project – and one we’re working hard to answer. Earlier this month, nine partner organisations from Belgium, Italy, and Slovenia came together in Ljubljana for our 2nd Consortium Meeting. Hosted by the Slovenian partners Focus, društvo za sonaraven razvoj / Focus Association for Sustainable Development, Stanovanjsko podjetje Ravne, and IRI UL, we reflected on progress and challenges from the first six months of the project. 🔍 What we’ve done so far: 🔸Explored how energy poverty manifests in Mechelen (BE), Cinisello Balsamo (IT), and Ravne na Koroškem (SI) 🔸Assessed residents’ readiness to engage in energy communities using interviews, surveys, focus groups & fieldwork 🔸Launched the co-creation phase to involve vulnerable households in shaping local Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) 💡 We’ve already learned that standard definitions of energy poverty often miss the lived realities of vulnerable households. This gap raises crucial questions about how we can more effectively and meaningfully address energy vulnerability in practice. 🏙️ Site visits & inspiration: 🔸Novo Brdo: An example of fair public housing development and national strategies tackling energy poverty 🔸Smoletova Street energy community: A bottom-up initiative proving the power of engaged residents and housing managers 🔄 While our pilot sites differ socio-economically, this diversity offers a chance to develop scalable solutions that can make a difference across Europe. 📢 We’re just getting started.
