When we think about net zero, it's not just a government goal but a goal that affects the whole of society. We are already seeing the impacts of climate change and we need to brace ourselves for a low-carbon and climate impaired future. To thrive in this new world, we need to prepare for a triple transition. But what does it mean for us? Here is that explainer for you. This post was created in partnership with the National Climate Change Secretariat, Singapore. Find out more about Singapore's climate efforts here: go.gov.sg/sgclimateefforts

If you're (or you know) a climate storyteller between 13 - 18 years old, don't miss the #SlingshotChallenge by National Geographic Society. In my own community, I've had the chance to experience climate solutions in action. From cool new materials like proteins made from air, large-scale community beach and river clean ups, to making art, there are so many stories of climate solutions to share. And we want you to share your environmental ideas for a chance to receive US$10,000 in funding. All we need is a 1-minute video. The Slingshot Challenge ends on the 7th of February 2025, good luck! More info in the link here: https://lnkd.in/gG7NFr9J Repost this so that the right people get to see this!

This spring cleaning season, we've prepared a little responsible spring cleaning guide to allow you to rehome the stuff you no longer want in better ways! In societies where hyperconsumerism is encouraged, spring cleaning can be a daunting season where throwing everything away is often the easiest and simplest problem. But that is not the solution to our consumption. While we can focus on consuming mindfully, a sustainable lifestyle should also include disposing of things mindfully as well. If we take time to listen to what others might want and need, the treasures that we own can continue to benefit the community longer than it has benefitted us. This takes time, and isn't always easy. But little steps to do spring cleaning more mindfully can go a long way :-) The full guide is up on the newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gFJD8AKf Happy spring cleaning and a happy Chinese New Year to those who celebrate!! *This guide is applicable to those based in Singapore. x The Weird and Wild #SustainableConsumption #ChineseNewYear #ScienceCommunications

Welcome to the Northeast Monsoon. Slightly delayed (as it started in December) but it's been raining non-stop all day, and this will likely extend into the weekend. But the continuous heavy rain and cooler weather we are experiencing is due to a monsoon surge - which usually lasts between 2 to 5 days. But what can we expect in the Northeast Monsoon and what are monsoon surges? How does La Nina affect what we are experiencing? What about the impacts of climate change? This is a #weather explainer for you. Stay safe and dry! Credits and thank yous to Avester Lau and Danielle Su for helping me understand Singapore's weather more intimately and for fact-checking. We dedicate this comic to you two! #ClimateChange #Monsoon #ScienceCommunications

We enter 2025 looking back at some of our comics of 2024. It’s been such an honour to have had the trust, faith and support of organisations and people who believe in our work and share the mission of co-creating informational work to the wider community. We’ve also been privileged to work with experts, community members, friends who’ve been incredibly generous with their time, heart and wisdom. In this grid, ww present some of our favourite community-led comics on causes and issues that remind me of how The Weird and Wild started out - with community. Now, that community has grown and we are indeed only grateful for all the love and support we’ve received in 2024. We enter 2025 with renewed spirits to continue creating, to open our hearts and minds to exciting opportunities and also new creative science communication projects. Thank you!

A little sprinkle of reflection, learning and appreciation this Christmas eve with SukkhaCitta 🎁🍃 So much effort goes behind getting various certifications, and I don’t think we necessarily understand how much and also what for. But as someone who’s read about targets like B Corp or Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for work, I know what getting these certifications mean to these brands who are committed to doing better. So when the SukkhaCitta team reached out to work on this explainer, I wanted to share their story so that we know what it means for us when we enjoy the fruits of their labour. But it goes beyond the standards, and really to the root and heart of SukkhaCitta’s core, and I’m always proud to bear witness to what they continue to do and grow. Thank you for letting me share this story, to reflect on tending to our soil to nurture our roots so that we work with nature’s rhythm and not against it. For more, follow @sukkhacitta on Instagram!

You may have heard about 'catalytic capital', but what does it really mean? Here's a simple explainer. Sometimes, impact projects just need someone to take that leap of faith to help them reach the next level and truly take off. Who can make that happen? Funders and partners such as philanthropic organisations can provide the money, networks, and resources to help them get started, scale, and succeed. Philanthropy can be a powerful catalyst for impact. In its final form, a COP29 summary for things other than just the NCQG. COP is always a mush of many things - from outcomes in negotiation rooms, to announcements outside of it. We couldn't quite capture them all so here are some that caught our eye, and hopefully launching points for you to catch up on should you need to. I do not dare call this a full summary as there’s so much I didn’t cover but may this be a small read for you to see COP29 from our vantage point 🇸🇬 If you're keen to catch Singapore's awesome programming, videos-on-demand are live on COP SG Pavilion that you can already access: cop-pavilion.gov.sg Other resources that are clickable can also be found in our newsletter drop coming soon: https://lnkd.in/gFJD8AKf #COP29 #ClimateCrisis #GreenerTogether

The climate finance deal everyone was watching out for had the funkiest acronyms: NCQG The New Collective Quantified Goal on climate finance. ***Argh, a small error on Slide 4. There is missing text at the very top that should read: In 2009, the developed countries set a goal that by 2020, they’d give developing nations $100 billion a year to help them deal with climate change. The focus on this finance piece was the reason why #COP29 in Baku was informally dubbed as the 'finance COP'. But what were the key items that countries were arguing about and the decision text had to make peace with? I put together a brief explainer for some of these key items, but there are resources by World Resources Institute, Carbon Brief, Down To Earth that dives deeper into other operational issues to make the NCQG work. I hope this comic explainer helps to at least provide some base context to understand this issue at COP29 a wee bit better. An homage to the chronically online, you'd probably get the front page reference :P Otherwise, scroll through the comic for the juicy details!
